Rushed, and panicked start pretty much universal, disorganised and frequent changes of teams, vehicles, tools, routes, worksites.  No planned alternative work, if main duties are disrupted. Teams either over resourced or under resourced simultaneously.

Management are incompetent and deeply mistrustful of their staff without cause. Will actively seek alternatives to implementing anti bullying policies and will always support each other in complaint procedures to quash any that arise about their conduct.

Very little time for rest breaks, often work into them or through them,  expected to work flat out at all times, regardless of personal health conditions, skill, weather conditions or ability. Will be called out for performance or lack there of regardless of reason and made a target of by management, for open season by coworkers to attack.

Will never listen to suggestions or work alternatives to improve things, a permanent, make do, do more attitude. 

Progression opportunities given to external candidates based solely on cv, ignoring in house candidates who are experienced and better trained.

Needlessly high stress and high anxiety role. Working alone is always preferable!!!

You will need to hit the ground running, they will support and help you but with that in mind some will also put you down for it to raise the levels of thier assertion for consideration of promotion.

I learned alot here, in fact it set the litmus test for what I expect as a minimum requirement in other places of work.

Focus on the good eggs, ignore the others and get on with your tasks. There is alot of support about so use it.

The hardest part is the relationship between front line staff and management as in most places. There is expectation verses what can realistically be done.

There is alot that can be enjoyable here, community projects getting involved with all aspects of public works and they do appreciate what is done if it is done well. Working alone and getting on with your day outdoors is great.



I worked in two different areas of SBC and for various Managers.  Overall, everyone was friendly and informal which made you feel comfortable. 
Some Mangers were very casual and under utilised whilst others seemed snowed under, and stressed, the workload balance here needs addressing.
As a temp you have to learn quickly, again some members of staff are excellent at providing detailed information, whilst others sit back and are not interested.
The hardest part of the job was not being fully experienced in offering important advice to the general public and unsure who to go to for help.  Some procedures seemed ad-hoc, and at times a 'blame' culture would set in.
The most enjoyable part of both jobs was knowing that you have helped members of the public and most of their important issues were being addressed.  


Base line staff here are friendly and helpful and thats about the only thing that gets you through. Management are genreally awful. They are opinionated and unapprochable and only want it their way. Staff are not listened too and end up frustrated and over worked, hence the high turn over of staff. 
The ability to do the job properly is taken away from you to hit targets and tick boxes, this is not giving the best to the role or company.
Its ok for a stop gap but generally you will be over worked and underpaid, which wouldnt be so bad if you felt valued as an employee, which genreally you dont. Sad as a lot of the staff are lovely. 
CEO is great, hope he will make changes needed.

A typical day dealing with tenants, contractors, utility companies and work colleagues. I learned telephone skills and how to deal with difficult telephones conversations.  Dealing with day to day admin within the office. Using the in- house data base for customer information. Processing orders and closing invoices. Liaising with work colleagues/management on a daily basis.

The hardest part of the job was dealing with difficult tenants, however this was never an issue in getting a satisfactory solution for both the tenant and the council.

The most enjoyable part of the job was working with a friendly team of people and being busy.

Massively undervalue staff, keep angency workers on for years getting bent over in taxes and national insurance without any contract/full time employment. Terrible local reputation, terrible attitude towards work, don't want to pay to do a job properly so do it the Cheapest way possible which includes sub contracting work out to companies that don't do a good job and then has to be refixed anyway. If you want a job and workplace that doesn't make you want to gouge out your eyes then look elsewhere

Check the wellbeing of tenants visiting those most vulnerable.
Learn the personalities of others and recognise their needs.
Report any concerns to management and work as a team.
Assist and supervise co workers.
Hardest part of the job is referring tenants for residential care when they cannot manage for themselves, especially when they have been so happy within the sheltered scheme.
Most enjoyable is knowing you are running a happy and content place to live.

Generally poor support, high sick levels due to stress. Management style is passive aggressive due to lack of knowledge and skills within housing. Assistant Directors are clique and due to their combine lack of skills dump on their managers. No sense of responsibility or accountability. Councillors are permitted to bully staff

The job is okay with decent working hours. The place feels quite dysfunctional. As a new starter it feels like you will be left to drown if you don't get along with the team. When you start, you are not really introduced to the people your working with. I felt like I needed to make the first effort. The people are okay for the most part but it can feel quite toxic so its hard to trust anyone. I wouldnt say its all bad but there are quite a few ways they could improve. There is training for different things happening quite frequently which is a plus.  

A great place to work, friendly and helpful with assisting their staff progress via training etc.
Great rates of pay, co- workers are all friendly and supportive in the workplace.
Management are very understanding of each individuals personal circumstances and offer flexible working patterns.
Have gained a better understanding of the role and learnt many new skills throughout my 4 years  so far.
Most enjoyable part of the role is seeing the positive impact the staff have on those attending the setting.
