Work can be slow to nothing while being expected to do work that you do not have or cannot do, it can also be fast with a large work load and while putting out a good to excellent amount of work it can be not good enough. salary low, goes through new employees very fast, productive in some areas, unproductive in others, took me almost 6 months to finally get my certificated sorted (although due to unexpected health issues with the trainer minimal effort was made by the company to resolve this.) There were violent outbursts, some minimal some extreme, work isn't particularly difficult if you know what your are doing but at times there is a lack of effort making your work a head ache. Some managers are good and reasonable and provide what is needed to meet your work load, others not and beat around the bush unnecessarily looking for issues that aren't there or making an issue out of something which was not or extremely minimal whilst targeting certain individuals and singling them out against the non-existent issues regardless of whether they may have the wrong person or someone else is worse regarding the issue irrespective of the size of the matter, felt like there were large political issues surrounding management at many times.

I worked there for a year and it was probably the worst company I have ever worked for. When I first joined I received no training and was then given a customer who clearly enjoyed being a bully towards women. Some managers there were brilliant and well respected however the majority were not, unfortunately for me, my manager was not one of those people. This company is a man's world and when I was in a situation with a customer where they sexually harassed me, the company not only told the customer that it was me who complained but I was then told to not to make them feel uncomfortable and to still be nice. 
If you are looking for a good company with good ethics/high morale/employee care, I strongly recommend you stay clear of Surface Technology. You are treated as a number and a not human being.

There are many ways to progress in this company and you'll find there is no discrimination between staff. However management tend to hold strong opinions of the factory workers despite how hard they work. 

Very understanding and easy to get on with people. 

Training was very good on the production side. They gave you qualification and real time to perfect your craft, giving you a sense of pride in your work. 

As for the training dealt by the more office based roles, It was poor and very unrewarding. Most of this is due to management. The roles themselves were very incising.

The people I work with are friendly and good fun but the company is badly run. for example we have job packs that have each stage listed and have to be stamped off when done by the operator that did the work and if the job returns from the costumer for rework the engineers make a new job pack and just copy and paste all the stages from the original job pack. so the stages that don't need to be done have to be stamped with an non applicable stamp. just little things that make our work that much harder.

in the 8 years of working for this company I found it very unpleasant working for them, too many untrustworthy people who were so desperate to get up the ladder( ie Promotions) weather they could do the job or not, I had to watch what I said or it would be twisted, I felt I wasn't given the proper training I was hoping for because of favouritism over the limited job positions.
I would never work there ever again, I was so unhappy.
Lets just say I dreaded Monday mornings, and it was a relief when I was made redundant.

nice people but pay is so bad. No hope of ever being trained in anything to further your own development.

The initial training given at the school is great and certifies you to IPC class 3 but there it stops.

Team leaders and managers are good to work for but its a work to rule kinda place with no flexibility that gets in the way of actually getting things done.

overall I felt jaded and under appreciated

Day to day work was fast paced and fun
However the management team lacked coordination and forward planning
The hardest part of the job was maintaining standards when you were pulled to cover so many different areas
However the people are some of the nicest and most positive I have ever had the pleasure working with

A blame culture. Severe lack of collaboration between teams and account managers and higher management. Lack of support by managers. No communication between production and account managers, always expected to know what was going on jobs but never kept informed when decisions were being made.

My experience at STI was really good and I had a great relationship with the management team.  The company, as you’d expect, require senior management with a strong work ethic which seems reasonable. 
  If you don’t have that then you won’t suit the company.
