Was employed to cover the East Midlands, this changed, due to redundancies, to cover Yorkshire too. Plus anywhere else if directors decided at last minute it was needed.

When I started we were a team of six, it grew to seven. Then after redundancies, we were 5 covering a bigger area. We also had to cover weekly on call rota, for any service breaks. As we were a good solid experienced team in the East Midlands call outs were rare. When Yorkshire area was taken on we also had to cover call outs in Yorkshire, which were a lot more common. Usually around 3 a week. So could easily be working from 7am, do your job in the day get home around 3.30pm then get called out 5pm and be out til  1 am. You then get phone calls next day at 7.30am asking where you are.

We had to do night works due to city centre locations, these got more common and would be dropped on you at short notice. Some managers would check if you were ok to cover it, others didn’t bother checking, and just booked you on it as though you dont have a life outside of work.

They never count travel time as working time, brought in a policy of no drinking or eating while driving, so ended up never having lunch as never had time to stop and eat.

The company shows a complete lack of trust in its staff by employing overly intrusive monitoring of staff, all vehicles are tracked/monitored during the day including inward facing dash cams, which I found overly intrusive.

When I raised concerns of lack of trust and respect got the typical “what have you got to hide?” question. The answer was nothing, I just didn’t want a camera a foot from my face all day. So they went down the route of gross misconduct for refusing to drive a van with an inward facing camera, so I quit.

Moral amongst field staff was non existent, everyone hated being there. The company treated field engineers like second class citizens all the time, when we moved offices we had no access to the upstairs offices for about a year, my pass didn’t work on any door to the building, so couldn’t even use the toilet.

I have been working at Svella Connect as a Recruitment Business Partner for 6 months and I can honestly say it is the best company that I have worked for. I have felt welcomed from my first day with Svella which has continued for the whole 6 months, everyone is helpful and easy to approach and I know that for any questions I have there is always someone who has the answers. The chance you get for continuous learning is market-leading as they have in-house training and L&D teams that can assist you with any additional training that you want/need, you also have access to complete apprenticeships to further your development and I am starting my CIPD level 3 which is all funded by Svella. The company values are also an important factor at Svella (Ethical, Teamwork, Ownership, Evolutionary & Inclusivity) and these are upheld from the director level down. Every opinion is listened to and you feel like a valuable member of whatever team you are a part of. With the nature of my role, I can see new starters come into Svella and take the next steps in their careers and grow their knowledge and skills which Svella assists with from the new starters' first day. If you are looking for a career within telecommunications then Svella Connect is the best place to be! 

I worked at svella for roughly 11 months. In wich management regularly cut corners and expect you to go above and beyond whilst also giving you nothing in return. The staff turn over is surprisingly high for a reason, for the work you do in telecoms and what the job demands the type of work is very underpaid and management will often work against you by asking you to buy your own tools (drill bits, hammers etc) even though it is there responsibility, if you refuse you will be treated differently. If an investigation were done into mispractices or an external audit were done, svella would be shut down. Management only promote family or friends, not just one or 2 family members but conveniently all cousins, childhood friends seem to get positions they are vastly unqualified for and often disregard the better candidate. Overall this work environment is toxic and unforgiving. I worked on residential cable pulling then quickly moved to Fibre instillation where I was the top performing crew all summer in the whole of Yorkshire. They then found false and made up reasons to dismiss me. 

Like all of the other reviews say, this is not a good company to work for. It was only made bearable and ‘easier’ because of who I worked with.
Pay is minimum wage, and the bonus scheme is a load of rubbish, I only ‘hit’ it once in my last week when management had agreed to make it more achievable.
The training was bonkers, after which they expected me to go out with another starter (after just starting) as the other guy was off.
The job list you get sent is ridiculous, and sometimes you may only do 2-3 as it is so unrealistic and that ‘they need to be completed’.
The hours were not as advertised in the job post and you’re pressured to work through your dinner. If management see that your van is still, they will ring up asking why you’ve stopped when you’re just having some dinner. If you do want to work through your dinner, you won’t be allowed to leave early either which is bonkers (most lads have dinner whilst other lad is driving). I could go on but you’re probably busy looking for ANOTHER job, so don’t bother applying here unless you’re utterly desperate.

Policies and processes change every 5 minutes so you’re always doing something wrong, management couldn’t care less about you and the team, blamed for other people mistakes as no one takes accountability, grown adults acting like teenagers with dirty looks and judgemental comments, higher ups are never to be seen then swarm around like flies when it comes to quarter and putting unnecessary stress on everyone, causing a very depressing work environment. Constant revolving door of staff as no one stays longer than a few months. Couldn’t wait to leave. 

If you’d love to work for a company that doesn’t pay you enough to even cover your bills, has one rule for you and another for the person sat above you, expects you to work past your agreed hours unpaid and where you’re always in the wrong then work here

You will never feel a sense of job satisfaction. You will be put through an unmanageable amount of pressure which puts pressure on your social and family life. You will be made a scape goat by the incompetent management teams. The rules change frequently, so try to keep on top of them, they are designed to trip you up and keep lazy management in a job. Everyone is miserable and moral is none existent. 
Leaving was the best thing about this job.
If you respect yourself and have a sense of self worth then please avoid at all costs.

Benefits and size of the outfit are a positive, colleagues were  all friendly and the atmosphere was good

Training for my role was limited, size of the company makes implementing changes difficult and complicated

Once I'd come to terms with my role within the company I enjoyed the work a lot more

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
My role was applying for and manging street works permits, the jobs came through pre-built with what conditions they required so there wasn't too much thought required, the number of jobs was the only real hurdle

The work can be hard to complete and the daily targets are not always easy or realistic to achieve. 

The job is not too bad as an entry level telecoms job. It will give you some knowledge and skills to progress in the field.

The work life balance is shocking,madatory saturdays along with your rota'd ones, 2 to 3 saturdays a month. 

High turnover of staff and not much promotion opportunities. A general feeling of dissatisfaction within the company with ground level workers, most people dont last more than a few months.

Physically demanding, early starts and late finishes, So if you have family or out of work commitments,the job may clash. 

Easy to get a job with them,if you dont mind grafting and need a job quickly.




In the interview they will make it sound like an amazing opportunity! New training opportunitys, amazing bonus! Bonus is mission impossible to get, 4 basic jobs a day and job 5 and over Bonus is earned, they dont seem to tell you at least 1 job a day the customer will tell you they have cancelled, some days you are lucky to get 1 maybe 2 jobs in. Mandatory Saturdays if you dont do it, get ready for a meeting! Tracked vans, shocking management, tried making bank holidays mandatory. They dont care about there staff at all, just see each person as a number. 

Since starting at Svella, I have hardly had any training on one set job before getting another role thrown my way. The expectations to learn fast when you aren’t particularly a quick learner is just unfair. The morale in the office can sometimes be awkward and it varies depending on who is in the office. The days fly by but with what you’re expected to do in a day, you’re lucky if you get a lunch break. It’s been an experience working in a different industry but it’s not one that I’d like to stay in after this experience.
