Plant area leader - Dryside
•	Plant Area Leader with responsibility for a four man shift team overseeing the Dryside Area of a Soda Ash Plant, ensuring work is completed to a high standard, on time and safely
•	Liaise with Production Manager to plan daily process isolations and maintenance. 
•	Carry out process isolations and issue permits to work.
•	Conduct first line diagnostics and maintenance on all mechanical plant within the Dryside Area.
•	Implementing initiatives to improve the management of site safety, contributing to achievement of company safety and environmental targets. 
•	Ensuring best practice is employed within plant area to achieve high production rates. 
•	Maintain production standards and rates, by controlling Key Performance Indicators 
•	Generate SAP reports and daily (24 hour) reports for management.
•	Planning and execution of stoppage/shutdown work, ensuring all work completed to programme. 
•	Part of designated decommissioning team, isolations, including sever and blank, safe removal of residual materials and management reporting for demolition authorisation
•	Conducting regular formal and informal reviews and required coaching with team – setting objectives and measuring performance in line with company standards
•	Conduct NVQ Assessment up to Level 3, as part of team of Company Assessors, across all shifts and two production sites

To complete to-do listed jobs and report to my HOD

Working as either a lone worker or in small teams each shift can be totally different to the previous one. Each day involves routines (pump changes etc) and controlling plant equipment in an efficient and environmentally compliant manner. Obtaining samples and carrying out quality critical tests also feature. Co-workers are helpful and knowledgable.

Very old and dirty technology and plant. Working in dangerous and unhealthy environments is expected.
Lone working with a two way radio in dark and gaseous and noisy wet conditions is to be expected.
Expected to learn different bays, jobs before given full pay that can take years to complete.


Poor strategy from senior managers , employees are stretched but are still pulling together as a team. Quality has been cut as well as investing into a very old plant,  everyday fire fighting. Hardest part of the job is working very hard and not being valued ....they want to get every penny out of you and more.

Was able to see the different areas of the company including the plant. Worked in three of the departments over a three week period and was able to apply my chemistry knowledge. 

Overall a really enjoyable experience in a friendly environment.

Working on reception desk, dealing with all phone calls and queries. Responding to any requests from employees. Data input and administration work.Working along side PAs when required.
Enjoyed customer care and admin, in fact all aspects of role, worked well with peers

Health & Safety not good. Dont care about shop floor workers. .................
Very secretive management. 
The working conditions are terrible and have been for many years.

Need to appraise shift working staff more. Past cultures are still within the company. Management don't listen to shift operators  and put too much blame on them, and not themselves 

Fantastic team to work with, plenty of site related challenges but opportunity to perform is always there. I would work there again as its the people that make it a great place .
