What is the best part of working at the company?
The students are the best thing about working there. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Workload due to lack of staffing. This also comes from the college not wanting to pay better for the retention of staff. Students are the ones who suffer. Also lack of support from management and also HR. HR mainly support managers and staff sickness due to stress or other issues are not appropriately handled by HR staff. This includes regular calls of "when are you coming back to work" at times weekly even if signed off for long periods. It's just not a great place. When you work there make sure you are in a union. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Limited ethnic diversity in managerial posts at all levels. Among average staff members, there's generally really good comradary but this doesn't really shield you from stress coming from upper management filtering down. 
Most changes come as a knee jerk reaction to a deep problem but no efforts made early on to avoid stress levels leading to mass staff sickness due to stress.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Meeting and greeting students internal and external staff liasing with mentors and creating and delivering 1:1 and group interventions 
Delivering mental health workshops and ensuring students who are facing trauma/ anxieties are seen to promptly. Supporting student services when there are no appointments and working together with safeguarding to ensure each students are adequately supported on a timely manner

The reason I still work here - The students & the purpose of the role I do! I just wish I had read the reviews on here before accepting the post.
However, the toxic, engrained culture within the college group will seemingly never change sadly. Poor line management, little to no support, shortage of staff permanently and unable to recruit, unequal pay, yet management insist that everything remain 'consistent' across the Group - ironic! Communication between colleagues is shocking.
HR  defend the company, not support the employee.
When management are made aware of concerns/problems, they aren't listened to, get brushed away or you're punished for it - leaving you with a fear to say anything at all. 
 

Sadly the Bedford College Group have gained a reputation for bullying culture, unfair work responsibilities in line with pay and poor management to which I was subjected too throughout my time here. 
Management seems to be the main problem throughout a few of the departments, with them being unfair, rude, distant and creating a culture where team work and staff friendships/support is deemed unacceptable leaving it to be a lonely, stressful, toxic place to work. Management will add to your responsibilities with next to no notice, no proper training and no pay rise. Staff turnover is very high and I can see why! 

The Bedford College Group is a wonderful place to work for the ambitious, high-performing employee.  The group now runs multiple college campuses across the region, with campuses in Bedford, Old Warden, Kettering, Corby, Wellingborough and Silverstone, offering a wide curriculum and therefore opportunities.  

They offer free education to their staff on any courses run by the colleges.  The organisation has a drive and ambition to cement itself as THE provider of further and higher education within the second.  

There is so much scope for development within roles and opportunities to grow with the group.

I felt well trained and confident within my role. Any queries were answered without hesitation and the workplace felt supportive. As the workload of the admissions team was larger than usual due to the transition to online enrollment, my responsibilities grew, but with this the level of support and encouragement did not cease. I very much enjoyed my time working with Bedford College Group and would recommend the environment to anyone. 

Due to the nature of a college, work was not constant throughout the day. Some times were incredibly busy and other times very quiet. Same thing depending on the time of year. September to December is very busy, but as the academic year progresses, things get quieter.  The more organised you are the easier it is.  Management were very supportive. 

I love working with young people and the job role can be extremely rewarding. More and more pressure each year to tick more boxes, jump through hoops, staff are brilliant, student focused, hard working, but senior management have no idea of the real job roles and what is involved. How can you look after over 220 students effectively?

TBCG is a big educational establishment. They are quite innovative and invest heavily in students. Culture is ok but I think it depends on which area of the college you work in. Leadership is good, need to do more for staff in terms of benefits and improve salaries for the lower earners. Curriculum areas are highly thought of and is an excellent place to work if you are a Teacher.

Supportive colleagues but poor work life balance. 
Did not feel listened to or acknowledged by higher management.
Student behaviour was not addressed appropriately.
Student disciplinary procedure needs serious attention
