The job itself, I loved and there were colleagues who were great. The problem was management. Not just of the front line staff but of the company. Branch manager's try their best to support their staff but the manager's above them pressure them about sales targets (which they in turn are being pressured about by the people above them). There is a massive push on sales which is attempted to be disguised as "meeting customer needs". This is sometimes true but your sales of products are tracked and you will be questioned on your numbers if they're low and a plan made for how to increase them. They're also massively behind the times technology wise which leaves a huge margin for genuine human error. If your face doesn't fit, you will be pushed out. I was pushed heavily to resign from my position, before I went on maternity and was due to receive enhanced pay. Indirect threats were made about what would happen if I ended up being fired for my record of illness whilst pregnant and how bad it would be for the rest of my working life to have that on my record. When it's good, it's a great place to work but if you make a mistake through human error or you do not sell enough, you will be pushed out.

I have worked for over 16 years in different companies, and to work here was the worse experience ever. I worked in the mortgage dept as a processor, and my time there was unbearable. The manager has no morals, health and safety concerns, very intimidating/bully. You did more than 37 hours and never got these back in the near time. Everything is paper based and old fashioned and you had the blame for anything that went wrong. My probation ended when I challenged a Health and safety issue, plus I was accused of something which I know I was framed for,  but I was thankful my time there ended, as everyone is related in some way, and you're on your own, only work there if you have family there, and that includes in the Union as they are the same, unhelpful. I now work for a reputable company with morals and treat their employees with respect, and I put this horrid experience to wrong place, wrong time

Worst job experience of my life.  I was repeatedly promised a management role. I was already doing the manager’s job, taking on extra responsibility daily, but the promotion never came. Just empty promises and being used.

You’re expected to juggle multiple roles in a single day for shockingly low pay. The workload is unrealistic and completely mismatched to the salary. Senior management are toxic, regularly gaslight staff, and make you feel small and disposable rather than supported or valued.

Hard work is rewarded with more work, not progression. Morale is low, turnover is high, and there’s a clear lack of respect for frontline staff.

Hybrid branches are a joke. You’re expected to work as a customer service advisor in branch and then switch to call centre work in the afternoon for the exact same pay. No recognition, no flexibility  just treated like a robot expected to perform multiple roles without question.



I have been working for this company for a short while in the mortgage processing team, and I wish and wish I never left my old job for this rubbish. The manager I'm under is to say the least a bully, very intimidating, . I have heard some horrible stories from people working here and can believe them. I cant believe that a company like West Bromwich are putting people in charge of employees and affairs that are unprofessional, bullying and intimidating co-workers: My manager manages your annual leave and I'm sure she's taking off more than I've taken, my last job you logged into an account and managed your own leave. I am so desperate to get out of here, everyone sticks together like a family, and you have no support, and the Union? say no more!!!!

Training given is poor. 
You cannot apply what you learn to a human being because everyone is different. 
Seniors get annoyed if you ask them questions about the job or help with customers. 
Way too underpaid for the information you're expected to know within such a small time frame.



It's way too heavily focussed on stats, there's no work life balance. 
You're expected to finish calls in unrealistic times when each query is different. 

You are micromanaged and scrutinized for taking breaks and basically feel like drone answering calls all day. 
It's gets very repetitive, very stressful and very depressing.

It's a good job to gain some experience but don't work here long term, there's no progression route. 

I worked at the west brom for less than 6 months. I found that if your face doesn't fit then they will try every way to get rid of you. I found the sales targets extremely difficult to achieve, yet I had little support to improve these. I was encouraged to "look elsewhere" and "at other options" within three months of working there, I.e. In short I was encouraged to leave as soon as possible because I didn't tick the boxes they were after. Not a nice working environment to be in, did have an impact on my personal life. I often wondered if I worked in a building society since all they were bothered about was selling home insurance and getting mortgage sales.

The most soul destroying, toxic work place ever.
You will be micromanaged and made to feel like dirt just because other's have been there longer.
Branches are cliquey and staff are nosey and rude. You start here and they think they rule your life- both in work and out.
The job is boring and offers no job satisfaction. You will be required to work most Saturdays and if you ask for one off, you'll be talk of the branch. There's no progression in the job role unless you want to be a branch manager, which I wouldn't advise. Just don't do it to yourself, the job destroys your mental health and you will soon be running for the hills.

I have just left after 3 crueling years at this awful place. Lots of bullying and intimidation in the branch network, supported by personal. Recently a new 'director' took over the network who is quoted as saying, 'I'm not here to make friends'!, treats the head of badly and completely undermines at every opportunity. Was recently bragging about her new range rover whilst making staff redundant. It would be a nice place but is ruined by personal and individuals. Morale is the worst ever and sickness is rancid throughout the network. Our new branch manager didn't know what they were doing either and was never there.

I left my previous role to come and work here and boy did I regret it. No support,  a form is used to ‘Help’ you talk to the customers but this is just a product pushing excercise, if you don’t talk about products and trying to find a need they mark you down. The company is based around face fitting and ‘looking after’ groups of individuals to the point that you work in fear. Training is poor and staff have left because of the hostile environment. There are many other good companies to work for but this certainly isn’t one of them

It is difficult to articulate the impact working in this HR Team had on my mental health. Far too many long standing mangers who are part of the problem and happily accept poor behaviours. Typical micronmanagement style, no leadership, old school culture....  A small example, I was constantly talked about behind my back and shouted at by much older colleagues.  The whole HR function is full of dominant/agreesive characters only interested in personal gain. PLEASE,  do not do it. You deserve better.
