This job is very similar to working on a building site but without the stresses of working on one.

Tools and materials are all provided and the general workplace culture (from my own personal experience) is quite relaxed. There are rarely any occasions where you need to rush your work which provides great job satisfaction. The only issue with this is some days it becomes hard to keep yourself busy as management has to organise the work out across the site so you can find yourself trying to stay busy and working while waiting for more work to come into your factory. But despite this the amount of work available gives me confidence in my own job security with the company.

You learn many skills such as pointing in-between bricks, cutting bricks, grouting and tiling and many other techniques depending on what the current project requires. Since I have been here I have developed different skills for each different kind of project that I have worked on, and it is always interesting to see what kind of project we get to work on next as the variety of projects is so large and each day is different.

Overall I enjoy working here because I liked working on building sites as well as being part of the workplace culture that you get with that. This company provides that for me as well as giving me a weekly wage, paid holidays and job security; things that are difficult to achieve as a self-employed tradesman.

I have been employed as a Caster at Thorp Precast for 18 months and have worked on a wide range of projects. With every project being of a bespoke design, there are always new things to learn. It is skilled, rewarding work, and satisfying to see the finished product going out to site.
The management here do their very best to make the job as easy and possible, and are very encouraging.  With any job, there are always some aspects that are harder than others, working to tight tolerances and occasionally being under time pressure are things I find most difficult about the job, however good time keeping and efficient working make it much easier.  The most enjoyable part of the job for me is that I can take ownership/responsibility for both my work area, and product, and the satisfaction from seeing a job well done.


From first point of contact with the recruitment manager, to the point I'm at now, this company has been a revelation to me. I carry out an immensely enjoyable role, have been given the proper training and guidance, and have a manager who has supported me all the way. The atmosphere is great, the work is both challenging but rewarding and employees are shown gratitude from the management financially, for having a good work ethic and commitment to the job. I highly recommend this company to anyone applying for employment here.  Definitely an opportunity not to be missed.

Chance to work on some of the UK's high end projects and to work alongside high end developers using state of the art CAD software.

The company took me on with no professional skills and have built me up and trained me to utilise their software and gain a deep understanding of precast. The scope for advancement is there and I have been actively encouraged and supported to undertake external training courses.

Thorp is a fast paced environment where hard work and good punctuality is rewarded with yearly pay rises and Christmas bonus.
Senior management are easy to get along with and will offer support for work and non work related problems.
A typical day is 8am till 4.30, permanent overtime is available everyday if you want it.
Every day offers a different challenge and there's several different parts of the job to learn and develop yourself.



Each day usually involves different tasks as you move along the process of making a panel, this helps with keeping the job engaging. I have learned alot about different tools and process aswell as reading drawings that when you first start may look complicated. Management is usally on the floor eith you so its easy to ask questions. Everyone usually jumps in to help when people are struggling so the culture is pretty good.

Really enjoy the environment the work place is clean and tidy dust free! The bosses are fantastic with a great recruitment and HR department health and safety is spot on. Factory managers go above and beyond for their team members. Overall the best place I e ever worked. 

We have fixed hours which fits well with my family life, I don’t work anti social times of the day. There is overtime available if you want to earn more.
I found Thorpe to be a supportive learning environment and I get a good sense of achievement from the work that we produce.
There is a great sense of team and belonging from the other employees. All in all I am glad to have joined the company.

I was hired with this company left my full time position I was late on my 1st day which I understand isn’t the greatest start but then sacked me on the spot knowing I’ve left a full time employment which I find disgusting it should of been a telling off not losing a job over something which I could of made up for shocking employer really think  hard about if you want to work there 

Good place work, hours 8.00/ 4.30 Mon/Fri, overtime available however optional. Training given within your job role, overhead crane and fork lift etc. starting salary above minium wage and after a positive probation period further wage rise and work wear provided Overall a good place and environment to work in, would strongly recommend.
