Let's start with the good things...

The absolute best thing is the early finish on a Friday, working longer hours Monday - Thursday is worth it once Friday rolls around and the afternoon is yours. Also, the company issue work wear which, whilst not great quality, beats wearing your own shirts. In general, the people there are all nice and help each other out, though I did have the unfortunate task of working with someone 

Now onto the not so good (there is quite a lot to get through, so please, bare with me)...

Culturally it's a very difficult and frustrating place to work. I found it to be ancient in lots of aspects and there was just a general feeling of being somewhat stuck in the past. Often suggestions for improvements were ignored, because it's been 'always been done this way, so why change?' It's in my nature to question why things are done certain ways, not as a criticism, but just to understand things and think how I might be able to improve something. To me, this is a positive, but asking questions at Triumph seemed to make people ultra defensive.

I didn't see any opportunities for onwards progression. There was no development plan for me, at least not one which was actually used (a development plan is covered in the yearly appraisal documentation, but in my experience it was simply a 'tick box' exercise and wasn't followed up on at all). When I asked my manager about a plan or path for progression, I was told in no uncertain terms that my job was just that, a job, and had no natural springboard or path either upwards or sideways, into any other positions - no matter how good I was at my job or how well I did. Obviously, hearing this didn't make me feel particularly motivated.

In my time there, I saw the company lose some very good people, which isn't surprising really as Triumph doesn't seem bothered about retaining it's people, and doesn't seem to value their people either - hence why the turnover of staff is pretty high.

However I can say my time there was useful, as it's now enabled me to move into another position within Automotive, which is better paid with more responsibility and a clear path for progression, so I thank Triumph for that,

It's good to work at a company where you have autonomy regarding decisions and you can try your ideas with full support of your colleagues and managers.

I have learned lots of new skills and been able to develop new ones in relation to my role but I have also been exposed to work outside of my remit that has developed my personal skills.  I have had some rewarding projects and challenges to work on and get involved with.

Management are supportive and encouraging and listen to ideas and suggestions as well as giving you the support to try new things.  Particularly when you have ideas which help simplify, continuously improve processes and bring about efficiencies.

Colleagues are extremely supportive and a there is a real team drive to get things done and help each other out.

The most enjoyable part of the role is being creative and building on your ideas then seeing them implemented.  It is very satisfying to see your efforts appreciated.

Triumph motorcycles is a good company to work for if you want to feel like you are an important member of toe company, it is jsut small enough that everybody knows eachother (which makes you feel comfortable from the beginning) but big enough to keep everything interesting. 
I work in the engine test department meaning I interact with multiple different teams and despite not having been here long I have found more senior members of staff pay me due respect. 
The working hours are fairly regimented with short lunch and break times denoted by a bell sounding over the tannoy system, whilst this does not lead to the most enjoyable  or relaxed working environment it is something everyone must adhere to, creating a sense of equality amongst workers from assembly line operators to chief design engineers as well as ensuring time at work is spent wisely. as a result this means i am not taking work homw with me at night meaning a good work life balance. 
Fridays are half days which is my favourite part of the job !

- Work through a large range of project stages from early concept/scheming, detailed design, supplier involvement, testing and production development.
- I learnt a lot about mass production and working with many departments to provide good solutions to suit the business.
- When decisions have to be made they get made, some freedom to have a personal direction in where the design of components goes.
- Youthful team environment, people are helpful in working together to provide a good final product.
- Hardest part of the job is specification changes when a complete turn around in the direction is required. Can be hard when huge amounts of effort is put in to have it all scrapped.
- The most enjoyable part of the job is reading reviews which praise the products and seeing the products on the road knowing you have taken part in getting the product into the hands of people who enjoy it.

It wasnt always like that, but in the last year or two the design department developed a real blame culture, and if you weren't on of the boot lickers you would be in the firing line. Advancement was available to those who just agree with what the higher ups say. Dont dare try make suggestions or provide realistic time frames, as they will be ignored. I never scored lower than an 8/10 in appraisals for any aspect of my employ, yet those who scored lower than me advanced in their role due to being part of the "inner circle". I know I sound disgruntled, but I truly am passionate about Triumph as a brand, and was so proud to work there. Just constantly being treated like a child and being required to sacrifice personal time without payment benefit is not acceptable. This culture only developed in the last 2 years. Sad. 

I joined Triumph with a degree of pride and turned down other good opportunities to get in there. After 6 months of employment, my view is quite altered. I was terminated by agency staff completely out of the blue and without explanation. This was after doing months of 50 hour weeks when it was advertised as 40 with 'opportunities for over-time'. The additional 10 hours wasn't classed as overtime just altered working hours. I was told to leave the premises like some sort of criminal, without properly being able to conclude some of the good relationships I had forged with other line staff. There's a few too many bootlickers in the upper echelons of Triumph, and a management tier that make the Chuckle Brothers look like a competent outfit. I shan't look back.

Very committed workforce who have mainly spent their entire careers here but welcome newcomers.

Privately owned with no shareholders to appease, so can change direction quickly.

Engineering led culture which is slowly transforming to try to be more customer centric.

Very open, approachable management.

Career development and leadership needs some investment.

Systems are outdated and a barrier to future growth.

Benefits are extremely generous, highly subsidised canteen, free tea and coffee, car lease scheme, pension, 6 times life assurance, cycle to work, child care vouchers, discounted clothing, parts, accessories and motorcycles and best of all, finish at lunchtimes on Friday.

In general, a great place to work. Management are very supportive. However room for progression is very limited. Sometimes progression is only given to employees that they know on a personal level. Sometimes progression is only given to employees who are ready to settle for a lower salary. 

You are workload is usually very high, which means you will doing a lot of tasks outside of your job role - which for me is a great thing as it builds my portfolio and helps me gain new skills and experience. However, for others, they may not see it as positive as it they are paid relatively low for the amount of work done. 

There are a lot of amazingly talented people there, but the project timelines aren't well planned and I've seen many engineers have to pick up too much slack to fix the company's fault. Middle management is often very supportive in developing new skills however, I found the reviews fairly pointless as a lot of the suggestions were not Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. and when you ask for them they will give you them but there isn't really any benefit for completing all of them. 
also, the work comes in waves where there will be brief calms between large amounts of work with very short deadlines.

I joined the company with very high hopes......a dream job working for an iconic brand and it disappointed at almost every turn. Worked at the Hinckley site for over 3 years and never once felt like I belonged there. The management structure consisted of the boss, then about 20 department heads who'd all worked there for more than 20 years. Each year they all swapped jobs and it never felt like there was even a chance of anyone else getting a look in. You had to be "in the gang" to even be considered. Thoroughly disappointing experience compared to what I had hoped for.
