Wolseley UK is the largest distributor of heating and plumbing products in the UK. I work on the NDC helpdesk to which 1200 Wolseley brand branches and large contract customers contact the helpdesk with enquiries, issues and orders. We are a team of 4 dealing with high a volume of calls and emails on a daily basis (approximately 600 calls and 500 emails per week).

My main duties:
• to provide a helpful response to all inbound calls at all times, ensuring that all problems are logged and resolved in a timely and effective manner
• to answer email enquiries from our customers
• to receive and processed customer orders and complete all computerized and paper based records,
• to obtain essential details from call outs to allow effective and efficient response,
• to liaise with the team leaders and the mangers in the warehouse
• organising same day couriers, collections and tracking parcels
• maintain personnel files
• Overtime and Attendance
• update incident trackers log
• Safety Alerts, Essential Safety Themes (collecting and logging sign-off sheets)
• ordering site stationary and uniforms as well as monitoring both to keep within tight budgets
• complete Management Information reports ( these are sent to the DC manager and the executives of Wolseley and need to be completed by 12noon on a daily basis)
• maintain security swipe card system

• During my career with Wolseley UK, I have been given more and more responsibility in terms of people and people processes and I have on numerous occasions supported the HR Business Partner for logistics during investigations as well as being trusted with personal data and information regarding employees within the business.

• Gained NVQ in customer services
• Trained new members of team to the highest standard
• Trained Fire Marshall and deputy roll caller

I guess like any workplace, at first I was given a team to work with but soon found out it was an uphill battle working with my colleagues. A group of middle aged bitter men who spent most of the shift b@tching about the management. It was so brazen it would be a group huddle, in full view of the warehouse. The type of men who think they can do a better job but would never take on the responsibility, fearing the same treatment. Anyway on a positive note! I found the management pretty good. (Came over and asked how you were, sometimes giving food or hot drinks, free Xmas dinner, I haven’t got a bad word about the management) You had the usual unspoken rule, that agency staff can’t be seen talking but the permanent staff could join a scrum to snide. Very physical role but makes the shift go faster. Quite a high turnover of staff. I worked the back shift, then after 12 weeks the pay went up to just shy of £12 an hour. Often it was busy and people were asked to stay back and hour to help the night shift get the lorries loaded. One week I got 15 hours overtime but the following week I was pretty shattered and felt pressured into staying. I was firm about it because it was affecting the time I spent with my children, especially when asked on a Friday night with 5 minutes of the shift remaining. It’s quite remote so you need to factor the commute, put 90 minutes on my night. All in all not a terrible place to work. One of the permanent members of staff I was paired with one night, took his frustrations out on me as I was getting on with the task in hand, totally out of the blue, outright intimidation. This guy was twice my size. I ignored it and didn’t report it to management for fear of rocking the boat. Let’s just say it made things awkward and made the overall experience for me not as positive as it should have been. It is what it is! As time went by it was revealed he kept applying for promotion but for some reason he was overlooked....hmmmm!

The goalposts are constantly moved and the roles are expected to take more and more on it allows for an opportunity to learn more but it is getting to the point you are often doing 2-3 peoples jobs by yourself. 

Branches are often understaffed or work with the bare minimum to get by, senior management continuously make you feel like whatever you do is not enough but offer zero support and your expected to just get on with it 

If you have an opinion that doesn’t aline with certain people within the companies you are deemed negative and are made to feel isolated and your job is at risk, loyalty to the company is not rewarded financially or via  promotion often is the case they prefer to hire someone external than promote within, if you stand up for yourself or you face does not fit you will not progress and be stuck in the same position for years. 

New external starters earn more than employees that have been here for years in the same role, if you raise the issue you are just pushed to one side and told you agreed to the wage when you signed up no matter how many years have passed 

Company is very much who you know not what you know 

It's a job at the end of the day. There are license options available if that's your thing and if you want to do various jobs around the warehouse so you you're not doing the same thing every day. As long as you make an effort and work hard you'll do absolutely fine. 
Like any job, it comes with its pros and cons, so in my experience - The money is ok but nothing to write home about (you are paid for your time at work, not for the work you do) so it's not a competitive salary. There are benefits such as the Yulife app where you can build up daily points and receive voucher rewards from doing various tasks. 
The colleagues and the team leader in my department were fantastic to work with and I can happily say I'd work with them again. 
Unfortunately there were a couple of individuals that made me feel bad about myself for leaving but it is what it is, I worked hard during the time I was there. 
There isn't much room for advancement if you want to go higher.
The qualification options are only limited to your place of work, not for somewhere else in the business. For example if you're in the DC, you can only train to be higher up in the DC, however if there are others already doing this, then you'll have no chance.











brought in as internal sales and was never trained from the start. Handed various different tasks to do, each as menial as the next. Usually including counting stock on the front counter or warehouse. Make calls to advise customers parts had arrived in as current sales staff just weren't doing this. Branch manager spent most of the time hiding in the office, out of sight out of mind hopeful mindset. Made it clear he did not want to be there. Assistant manger clearly struggled to be there and choose to discriminate against other colleagues. Major personal issues that were brought into the workplace all of which were ignored by hiding branch manager. My day started by asking for work, every day. Never any sales work, albeit sales team always busy. Violate, uneasy and horrible atmosphere to work in. Warehouse manager saving grace of the place but only one pair of shoulders cannot make a business work. Highlight of the time there was customers, would have been nice to have been able to serve them but training was a no no.
Avoid this company unless the branch gets a complete overhaul in staff, no one needs to feel belittled in a workplace.

I have been working for Wolseley for about 3 and a half years and I have enjoyed being a part of the company knowing the job is secure and there is always potential for growth.
Training provided is good and I gained forklift qualifications and experience working with different kinds of equipment.
Management care about people, they could do a bit better in terms of rewarding best performing individuals, but it is a work in progress and I am sure it will get there one day so people could be recognized for their efforts as individuals just as much as they are as part of a team.
Job itself is not hard, but you need to be willing to learn new things and to pay attention to details as everything is monitored in terms of productivity, errors rates, attendance etc and you will be annually reviewed.
I have always done my best to be proud member of the company and 
overall, it has been a pleasure and I would choose Wolseley again if I was looking for work and a future career.
Sadly I have to leave company very soon, because I am moving abroad ,but  management are supportive and understanding in my decisions which is appreciated.

Throughout my job data management is at the core of it.  This may be from collecting information about products, adding it many, or even sourcing it myself.  This can be something as simple as a basic product description to more detailed aspects of the products including images, technical documentation, and specifications unique to the product.

However, there is more. I also end up assisting Pricing data management on a number of occasions, be it simply answering the phone and dealing with branches on basic queries or ones further advanced than the typical pricing query (be it glitches in the system, or other issues).

The most enjoyable aspect of my job is dealing with suppliers and working together with others outside of my team to help bring the catalogues and websites to life with good data.  Seeing your work in a publication is also a great feeling.  Writing out product descriptions can be a tiring and laborious process but it is also one of the most crucial parts of data management for the website.  After all, no one can buy something if they do not know what the product is!

After giving nearly 9years working here in the chesterfield branch I would say it was a complete nightmare in the end 
The first year or two was ok minor problems with members of staff but when reported to management, the management response was it’s a work environment not a school yard deal with it yourself 
After maternity leave I came back to a very hostile environment within the first half of shift I was repeatedly told to be careful of management as they no longer wanted me there. After hearing this over several week my mental health was at an all time low and was signed off for several weeks on my return I was told I would have a disciplinary due to sickness. I called the law centre after this and was advised that they were on my side but said if I proceeded and wanted to continue to work there, work would make it very for me 
I felt like I had no choice to carry on working 
I’ve finally found another job within the same field and feel such appreciation and a competitive salary 
Look around, don’t bother with vicious management

The training is clear and well-structured, ensuring carers feel confident when supporting service users in their own homes. Management are approachable and communication is generally good, with staff encouraged to raise concerns or ask for guidance when needed. The focus on dignity, respect, and person-centred care is evident, and service users are treated as individuals rather than tasks. Scheduling is usually organised in advance, which helps with planning and maintaining a work–life balance. Mileage support and pay rates are competitive compared to other providers, and the company recognises the importance of reliable, compassionate carers. While the role itself can be demanding, the organisation makes an effort to support staff wellbeing and professional development. Overall, this is a solid company for anyone looking to gain experience in domiciliary care while working within a structured and caring team.


you start by having to rush find orders off delivery to get on to the vans . this includes radiators, large doors, huge amounts of pipping .
management is awful there is not support and they have to time or care for warehouse staff all they care about is picking and getting out the door . health and safety is a joke only an issue when wheels fall off vans even then thats covered up and the driver gets the disciplinary even though the company fails to keep up with maintenance. equipment is old and dated , the system is old and dated . they use every excuse to not pay overtime when it should be . A glitch in the matrix is there favorite excuse.
oh and the bonus scheme . what a joke you work hard all year and get like 400 bonus if lucky but they spout like its the best bonus and you get loads but the company uses dirty tactics so your branch can not make quota 
Avoid working here if you enjoy life it will drain every part of your soul till you are empty and depressed
