Xerox

The reprographics department in a law firm was outsourced to Xerox in 2018. Through this experience I learnt that Xerox places a lot of resources into its sales teams and not enough into onboarding and change management. 
Communication was poor at best and non-existent at worst. Provision of company benefits was very badly managed and barely communicated to us. Essential functions in the department were removed with no alternatives put in place, making clear that Xerox had no idea how to keep things running in the midst of change and upheaval. Important changes such as redundancy of a department manager were not communicated until weeks after the person's last day, which I was told is the way Xerox operates as standard.
Standard shift patterns were immediately changed without consultation, then changed back upon legal implications being raised by operatives. Under US influence, the UK arm of the company will attempt to get away with whatever it can, only just within the bounds of UK employment law.

Xerox inherited numerous problems within the department but instead of rigorous research before the transfer and planning ways to deal with these problems, Xerox promised all kinds of technological improvements which were completely unrealistic. They did not listen when us operatives tried to tell them this. None of the promised improvements were ever delivered.
Big changes at the top of the company in the US meant company spending had to be frozen (in order to keep billionaire shareholders happy) adding further difficulties to a department in need of investment.
The company culture was non-existent, which was a shame considering that, before its outsourcing project, the law firm had a good culture of inclusion from the top to the bottom of the company. 
Honestly, it's a shame that the most enjoyable part of the job was walking out of the department at the end of each day.

A typical day at work consisted of carrying out tests on the newest software for Xerox photocopies, this often involved testing various features on the photocopier and comparing the results with that of a different software set. Tests were carried out in a team with constant communication to each other as to the results being recorded. However, the nature of testing means that new problems can arise at any point which could mean having to change the test or even start an entirely new task. As a result of this, I learnt to think on my feet and try to come up with solutions to problems as they arose. I also learnt to work in a team to both communicate and solve problems.

The job also required us to report our findings to senior members of staff and management. Whilst working at Xerox I found the management to be clear and encouraging when outlining tasks, I was also unafraid to ask for advice or help at any point as they were friendly and happy to help. As my position was only temporary I had to learn on the job quickly, in doing this I found my co-workers to be accommodating and willing to show me how to do things. This was extremely helpful and made the learning process much easier.

The hardest part of the job was trying to work at the same level as more experienced co-workers, as the job required lots of specific technical knowledge. However, this forced me to apply myself and ultimately allowed me to achieve more in the ten weeks that I worked at the company. I found the most enjoyable part of the job to be the problem solving aspect of it. On a particular occasion I was given a task which involved finding a solution to problem that involved compiling a large amount of computer based company information. I was given time to do research and learn new skills in order to find a solution to the problem. I found this process very rewarding and insightful.

I have approximately 9 years customer service and support in various companies in English and Dutch. I supported users personally and over the phone and dealing with the various issues and expectations from them and management.

My previous employment in Customer Service and retailing developed strong interpersonal skills and my capacity to deal with multiple demands on my time and resources. I have held various back-up positions from backup coach to backup Incident Life Co-coordinator, where there were several extra responsibilities, such as offering trainings and assisting and analyzing older and more difficult cases that required more engagement with the users and interactions between different teams. I helped create a knowledge point my colleagues that simplified finding solutions and processes for work 

I am an outgoing and quick learning person who enjoys the challenge and the atmosphere of a team but also can work easily towards deadlines in an effective manner on my own.

A typical day at work varied a great deal and could range from dealing with queries received from employees about various matters, such a changes to maternity start date, queries about wanting to change working pattern, HR Regional managers wanting detailed information on a particular employees case. 

I learned a great deal from managing my time better and using it more efficiently.  I have gained good interpersonal skills having dealt with different groups of people.  My organisational skills are very good and I take pride in all that I do.

The management team at Xerox/Pwc have always provided me with support and encouragment to better my skills and build upon my existing experiences and knowledge. 

The hardest part of my job was getting used to the volume of work to process on a day-to-day basis whilst managing other tasks at the same time, such as dealing with queries, escalations and other adhoc tasks.  I managed this well by prioritising my work and asking for help as and when needed.  I also learnt to push back on things rather than just saying yes straight away.  I learnt a great deal from this and it has helped to improve my timekeeping and prioritisation skills.

Within my previous roles I was fortunate to learn many different HR processes, policies and procedures.  This has enabled me to deal with various groups of people and this is what I have enjoyed a great deal, interacting with different people on different queries and being able to help and provide support and assitance. I have very much enjoyed working on different processes and feel that this has provided me with a wide range of knowledge in relation to HR processes and policies.

A typical day for me starts 8.30 and ends around 5 pm. I spend part of the day dealing with production work (allocating projects to translators, performing translation quality control, reply to queries from translators regarding projects, invoices or any other queries), as a team leader I support my team if needed, delegate tasks to the team and work on some process improvements or initiatives.

Since I started at Xerox I have learned a lot about translation and localisation industry, translation project coordination, working with people from different cultural backgrounds, improved my presentation skill. I have learned to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. In my 9 months as a team leader I have gained useful team leading skills, I have learned how to achieve goals through the team, how to coach and motivate my delegates.

I have had great managers who helped me to improve my skills and develop professionally. They have not only been my managers but also friends. 

I have worked with some great people and many of them have become a very good friends of mine. This have helped us to get through busy and stressful periods. 

The hardest part of the job is probably working under pressure when workload is really high and you have to learn how to deal with stress and to know when to ask for help if you cannot cope.

the most enjoyable part is working with my team members who are my good friends and our outings after work or lunches and tea breaks we take together.

Running a busy print production operations with additional service offerings. To keep up with the requests from key clients Capgemini/ Fujitsu and HMRC and to develop account revenue streams in order to meet Xerox revenue targets. To manage a team and look at how we could implement improvements to the services offered by replacing machinery, offering decentralised print solutions and . becoming embedded in the client business . The work was very varied and volumes to cover high, attention to detail was very important. The hardest part of the job was trying to ensure all uk hubs were using the services and marketing the site to the correct line managers. I learnt the importance of delivering exceptional customer service, to be aware of the outside competition in your industry and to win contract renewals. I enjoyed dealing with contract account reviews and presenting new business products and services and the site won team of the year for the amount of business I won from other companies.

I feel that this review will not reflect Xerox as a whole but is targeted at WDS in Poole. The working environment is poor with very little assistance from supervisors and management. The staff turnover is ridiculously high as basically all staff are dissatisfied with the role. Management will also sack staff with only 24 hours notice for the most minor of offences only to take on new staff which will later be dismissed. There is basically no possibility to advance within the company. Staff are given advanced roles (at the same pay rate) only to be stripped of the role a month or so down the line due to "changes in the contract". Constant threats of job loss with a 24 hour notice period. Morale in the office is usually low. Call times are very targeted so at times you feel very much like you are not providing customer service and simply trying to get the customer off the phone as soon as possible - Not the way I want to work. Not the sort of workplace I wanted to stay in. I felt the need to resign.

Horrible place to work. Managers are clueless, the wage is low and you are expected to do atleast 3 peoples work. Even the Team Leaders palm their duties off onto you onto of all the other work you have. Can forget about bonuses as if one person on your team doesnt perform then the whole team doesnt get their bonus which happens every month due to the fact that Xerox hire anyone. So many people with no knowledge of IT or even common sense. Was only there for 3 months and I. That space of time seen atleast 9 colleagues leave and new staff join who also left. The are really bad at candidate retention. Will let some of their brilliant minds go rather than offer them a pay increase and will make due with lower quality work instead where several complaints and fines are imposed on the company. Have even seen them lose 2 big government contracts due to rubbish work ethic and poor management.

If you are a serious IT professional I'd suggest you stay clear. On the other hand if you want a job you can get into easy and you know nothing then go for it. But be warned the managers treat you like dirt.

Work environment is quite flat with not real interaction among colleagues. Company requires high level of performance assigning to the single individual other jobs/tasks that originally belonged to who was in charge of that particular activity, but either has left or had to,without being replaced.
They try to squeeze the budget to fit the purpose, so to speak but employees are not prepared to follow this direction on the long term/regular basis, as it is considered abusive especially when upon a request of an extra activity,often very important there is not a single offer in terms of compensation as counterpart. It appears that for those individuals that have more knowledge,beyond what is their own official activity,the simple fact to know more is rather a curse than a way to progress and being rewarded.That is why almost every day someone quits here.

I was part of Global Experiential Marketing a great team of 5 in Europe reporting into the US. We really worked off our strengths and supported each other greatly.  We worked very hard! Never a dull moment and never a quiet time.
I implemented an online customer registration system, online event merchandise store and learned a lot about Marketo! 
We met regularly all coming to the table with new and interesting ideas, introducing new suppliers and working out the best way to ensure our stakeholders were delivered a 1st class service.
Our leadership team within Corporate Marketing was the best. A very open and honest working relationship where everyone was flexible and extremely supportive.
