The workload is significantly high in the early years sector as a whole, in the setting there are very high standards but they help us to achieve our goals in providing outstanding care for our children.

A typical day at Bright Horizons Didsbury is busy, rewarding, and incredibly supportive. From the moment I arrive, there’s a strong sense of teamwork and positivity in the setting. No two days are exactly the same, but what is consistent is how valued and supported I feel throughout the day. The team works closely together, and even when things get challenging, everyone steps in to help each other, which makes the environment feel calm and collaborative.
There is a great balance between focusing on the children’s care and development, engaging with families, and supporting one another as colleagues. Our wellbeing is always considered, and regular check-ins or conversations happen naturally throughout the day, which makes a massive difference.

I have been working here for almost 3 years. I started at Didsbury as a nursery assistant, I was offered an opportunity to complete my level 3 apprenticeship where I had so much support and encouragement from my management and team. Once I qualified I then progressed to room leader a few months later. The management team have always supported and encouraged me from day one. I think it’s so important to have a management team that supports you, it’s very rare you come across management who see you and accept you, helping guide you in a positive way to support your career progression. I came from a workplace where the management team didn’t provide that so I am very very grateful and lucky to have found such amazing people at Didsbury. The Staff are very much appreciated and pushed to be the best versions of themselves both professionally and personally. 

I have learnt and continue to learn so much from the management and the team around me. It is a diverse nursery and each and every individual is celebrated and accepted - we support one another and we all have a voice that is heard. I have never had a workplace where it feels like one big family but Didsbury really is. It is a fun, exciting place to work, there’s always people who put a smile on my face. The support we get from not only the staff and management team internally is amazing but the company also offer external support through our company scheme. We get access to healthcare, mental health support and lots of discounts in your favourite shops/ gyms and so much more! We also have staff appreciation weeks, employee of the month and staff shoutouts to acknowledge your hard work and dedication. 

The hardest part of the job for me is when we have busier days, hitting capacity in the room. Sometimes it can feel overwhelming but one thing I’ve learnt is that’s also one of the things I love most. All days are different and it’s the times where it might feel like a lot where you realise how amazing the team around you is, the way everyone pulls together and remains positive. You also realise that gaining experience on those busier days supports your professional development and your own confidence in ways you don’t even realise until you reflect back from where you were and how you felt on the first day compared to months/ years down the line. I have gained so much experience, so whilst some people may say that having a lot of children is a bad thing I actually think it’s the opposite and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to be a part of team Didsbury!  

The most enjoyable thing about the job is having the opportunity to be apart of so many children’s journeys. I love my job, I get to watch the children grow, learn and develop everyday, being able to be apart of their magical milestones .  Knowing I make a difference each and everyday is what makes my job the most enjoyable. In addition to that the atmosphere is so positive, fun and friendly! 

I worked with Bright Horizons and was severely underpaid. When I reported this I was attacked for it being my fault and was specifically called to be told it is my fault. Despite contacting all the nurseries to confirm my shifts I was still not paid. I am owed over £250 and was taxed even though I am a student because they used the wrong tax code. I left the company and was never paid my hours despite contracting something at work and being ill for three weeks after my first few shifts. I was ask never paid for my online training for which they pay for 6 hours. My training took over 10 hours despite doing it as fast as I could. The pay rate is abysmal for the mental and physical concentration this job requires. The staff are very nice however the management is very poor. The management have no idea the work that gets put into the children and pass down orders without knowing what they mean. In my first three nurseries I saw that all the staff badmouthed their managers which was quite a shock but I then realised the managers would pop in and play with the kids for a few minutes and go back out and then give orders to the staff which would make the day much more difficult. Like telling them to change timings and have things done at impractical times. Someone I know applied for a role with bright horizons and I recommended to them that they do not go forward with the job. After I applied it took over a month for them to process my forms since no one at Bright Horizons attempted to contact my previous employer for a reference. When I called up my previous employer they told me they were never contacted and I had to chase up my own references so bright horizons would process my employment offer. I really would not recommend working here I think the nursery carers are extremely passionate about the children however the managers and the company are just a business controlling the employees. There are many other companies that pay much better for the service you give and treat their employees like human beings rather than just an employee number.

Working as Deputy Manager at Bright Horizons Swanscombe has been an incredibly rewarding experience. A typical day at work is dynamic and engaging, beginning with team briefings to ensure everyone is aligned on the day’s priorities and the needs of the children. From there, the day flows between supporting staff, engaging with children and families, overseeing operations, and ensuring the highest standards of care and education are consistently met.

Throughout my time in this role, I have developed strong leadership and communication skills. I’ve learned how to effectively support a diverse team, adapt to challenges quickly, and maintain a calm, solution-focused approach in a busy environment. The role has also deepened my understanding of early years development and the importance of creating a nurturing, inclusive setting.

The management team is highly supportive and collaborative. There is a clear commitment to professional development, and ideas are genuinely valued. Leadership encourages open communication, which helps foster trust and a sense of shared purpose across the nursery.

The workplace culture is one of teamwork, respect, and positivity. Staff are passionate about what they do, and there is a real sense of community. Everyone works together to create a safe, stimulating environment where children can thrive.

The hardest part of the job can be balancing administrative responsibilities with time spent on the floor supporting staff and children. However, this challenge is also what makes the role so varied and fulfilling.

A typical day at work varied. Recruited as a DM would be in the kitchen covering as chef or covering ratios , admin ... vast over time and poor work life balance. 
Higher management not supportive although direct manager was ( very). Many on team habitually lazy and senior management would not help along with HR. You'd raise concerns and would not even get responses, so troublesome staff could remain on team bringing the morale down for the motivated and confident staff, ensuring those good staff were working above and beyond to cover for the lazier ones. 
Senior management constantly looking for excuses and means to place management team on PIPs and make them feel unworthy in their day to day existance and roles. 
Bias attitudes demonstrated by senior managers. 
Training opportunities were good and competitive salary however stress levels unhealthy. 
Senior managers sarcastic and demeaning. 
Poor support regards staffing, refusing agency cover and blame shifting regards recruitment , retainment when this is a industry wide issue. 
Poor resourcing. 
Inconsistent communications between ECS's and RD so you never really knew which direction to go in. 
Work place culture stressed , regionally and everyone screaming out for staff and support. 
Maintainence of provisions untimely and shoddy. 
I did do a lot of training for which I am grateful and I learnt a great deal. 
I actually really liked many of the company approaches and their ethics. So many great people in the company too in so many departments. 
I would have stayed beyond six years with kinder and more supportive approaches. 
I hope the company will learn that they will continue to lose good and strong practitioners if they are not heard, valued and supported. 
At my exit interview I shared many concerns with HR and was assured that my concerns would be shared with a senior director?
Never received any correspondence regards that so feel that was possibly just a placebo pacifier. 
The world will continue to spin and the same people making many below them stressed and unhappy still contune to be enabled and empowered to continue, whilst destroying an amazing industry. 

Working as a Room Leader at this nursery has been a rewarding and valuable experience. A typical day is fast-paced and involves planning and delivering engaging activities, supporting children’s development across the EYFS framework, supervising staff within the room, maintaining safeguarding standards, and building positive relationships with parents. No two days are ever the same, which keeps the role dynamic and meaningful.
Throughout my time here, I have developed strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills. I have learned how to effectively manage a team, delegate responsibilities, support staff development, and ensure high standards of care and education are consistently met. The typical day at work was  welcoming children and parents in the morning and settling the children to various play activities, such as painting, drawing, toys, sand and water play, etc. 
- organising and leading group activities such as singing, music, mime, role-play, number and word games, baking 
- planning and setting out themed activity areas - such as 'drawing my house', 'going shopping', 'making birthday cards' - and helping the children to understand and complete their tasks 
- talking to and interacting with the children, keeping a watchful eye on the children's behaviour, encouraging shy children to participate and maintaining discipline 
- providing snacks and assisting them to eat, wash and toilet 
- reading stories to groups 
- ensuring that children are playing safely, overseeing outdoor play on swings, slides, etc 
- clearing away after activities and at the end of the day 
- completing paperwork, children's files and keeping records

what i learned.. Working as part of a team will strengthen the child’s social and emotional skills, help develop their communication skills, and can improve confidence.Management .running the setting in line with environmental, health and safety and fire regulations  of the nursery  to make sure that the service meets Ofsted and Early Years Foundation Stage standards.  responsibility for ensuring that the agency's child protection processes are in place and for making sure that children are kept safe from harm. The relationships with  co-workers  make all the difference.respect.thrust,support is fundamental.The harder part of the job? i didn't found hard just maybe some kids demand a lot of attention but was great!
The most enjoyable time for me at work was,when I noticed how children learned and could achieve all your goals.
