Help build the finance function of a growing business.
Lexia Education Services is one of the South West’s fastest-growing education businesses, delivering specialist tuition and mentoring services across schools, local authorities, and families. Over the last five years we’ve grown rapidly, and now we’re looking for someone who doesn’t just want to manage the numbers—they want to improve how finance works. This is an opportunity to join at a pivotal stage in our growth and play a key role in building a finance function that is efficient, commercially focused and scalable.
The Opportunity
This is far more than a traditional management accounting role.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, building processes and creating financial control. You’ll work across multiple systems and data sources to ensure that every pound coming in and out of the business is accurately tracked, reconciled and understood. You’ll have the freedom to redesign processes, automate manual tasks and implement better ways of working. Working closely with the Directors, you’ll become a trusted commercial partner, helping us make better decisions whilst strengthening the financial foundations of the business.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Owning reconciliations across multiple systems and ensuring complete financial accuracy.
- Developing robust financial controls and processes.
- Identifying and eliminating financial inefficiencies and potential cash leakage.
- Supporting monthly management accounts and financial reporting.
- Building commercial reporting and performance dashboards.
- Working with operational teams to improve financial processes.
- Leading finance-related projects, including automation of payroll and billing through new technology platforms.
- Improving the flow of financial information between operational systems.
- Working alongside our external accountants while identifying opportunities to bring more of the finance function in-house over time.
- Continuously reviewing processes and recommending smarter, more efficient ways of working.
About You
Part-qualified (ACCA/CIMA/ACA) or qualified, but more importantly you’ll love improving finance functions.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has strong experience in management and transactional finance.
- Enjoys reconciliations and making complex financial processes simple.
- Has excellent Excel skills (an Excel assessment will form part of the recruitment process).
- Understands how finance supports commercial decision-making.
- Is naturally curious and enjoys finding problems before anyone else does.
- Can work independently and doesn’t need constant direction.
- Takes ownership and enjoys building things from scratch.
- Is confident communicating with non-finance colleagues.
- Has experience working across multiple finance or operational systems.
Experience of payroll, billing automation, finance systems implementation or process improvement would be highly advantageous.
Why Join Lexia?
This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of a growing organisation.
You’ll have genuine influence over how our finance function develops, with the opportunity to progress into Finance Manager, Financial Controller or Head of Finance as the business continues to grow. You’ll work directly with the founders, where good ideas are encouraged, decisions are made quickly, and you’ll see the impact of your work every day.
If you’re someone who enjoys creating order from complexity, improving systems and helping ambitious businesses scale, we’d love to hear from you.
