About the Role

We are seeking an inspiring and experienced Principal Lecturer to lead our Music Production, Music Business, Sound Engineering, Popular Music and Music provision. This senior role carries responsibility for the strategic development and operational oversight of a dynamic portfolio of music, production and event-focused programmes.

You will provide strong academic leadership, ensuring high-quality delivery, an excellent student experience, and a curriculum that reflects current and emerging industry practice. Working closely with academic teams and external partners, you will drive innovation, maintain standards, and support growth across the portfolio.

You will oversee strategic and operational aspects of our honours degrees in Popular Music, Music Business, Sound Engineering and Audio Production, and Music Production, alongside foundation degrees in Live Event Technology, Music Performance, and Audio and Music Production. The role also includes strategic and operational oversight of postgraduate programmes in Event Management, Music Production, and Sound Engineering and Audio Production.

Key responsibilities include leading curriculum development, managing academic teams, ensuring quality assurance and compliance, and strengthening links with industry to enhance employability and progression as well as significant operational management of the day to day running of aspects of the department You will play a central role in shaping a forward-looking offer that integrates performance, technology and live experience design.

Our Music & Events Department sits at the centre of a vibrant creative community, delivering industry-focused education across performance, production, sound, and live experiences. We prepare the next generation of creative professionals by combining artistic practice, technical expertise and real-world application.

Based at our Metronome estate, in the heart of one of the UK’s most dynamic creative cities, students benefit from access to state-of-the-art facilities, including:

Professional recording studios and control rooms
A large-scale live performance venue and black box space
Specialist music and audio production and post-production studios
Dedicated rehearsal rooms
Live event production and technical facilities, supporting lighting, sound and staging

These facilities are designed to replicate professional environments and support experiential learning, ensuring students graduate with the practical skills and confidence to succeed in the music and events industries.

Our department brings together musicians, producers, costume and theatre designers, engineers and event professionals in a collaborative and forward-thinking environment. We place a strong emphasis on industry engagement, live briefs and applied learning, working closely with partners across the creative sector to ensure our courses remain relevant, innovative and impactful.
