Ballifeary House – Assistant Matron/Clinical Lead
Full-Time - 40 Hours Per Week - £45,000.00 P/A
Ballifeary House is a highly regarded and friendly 24-bed residential home for older adults which belongs to the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland. Our goal is to provide our residents with safe, high-quality care in a warm, homely, relaxed and happy Christian atmosphere. Respect for the dignity and privacy of each individual is key as we encourage and enable residents to achieve their potential capacity - physically, spiritually, intellectually, emotionally and socially.
We are looking for an Assistant Matron/Clinical Lead to assist with all aspects of managing the Home, including planning, implementing, co-ordinating, developing and monitoring of the Home’s provision of quality care,with a willingness to work in the Christian atmosphere of the Home.
The role requires sound clinical knowledge and relevant experience in the Care and/or Nursing sectors is essential. Recent proven experience in leading teams would be beneficial. Candidates, on application to post, should have at least level 3 SVQ in Social Care or equivalent and be prepared to obtain SVQ level 4 in Leadership and Management.
We are unable to offer sponsorship at this time so we are not looking hear from candidates requiring sponsorship at this time.
The post holder will be required to work some weekends and be available for the out-of-hours on-call system, which operates on a rota basis.

Responsibilities
· Be aware of and understand the Home’s mission statement, and to be in sympathy with and support the aims and practices of the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland in the running of Ballifeary House.
· To respond sensitively to the spiritual needs of residents and staff whilst demonstrating a clear understanding of the Christian ethos of the Home.
· Help build the positive reputation of the home, liaising professionally with visitors, and maintaining effective communication and co-operation with relatives/friends of residents and other stakeholders.
· Be aware of the need for budgetary control, ensuring cost-effective use of all resources.
· Promote good relationships with the wider local community and convey a caring and positive image of the Home.
· Always ensure that confidentiality is maintained.
· The Assistant Matron will help lead the team via a ‘hands on’ approach, by providing a visible, accessible and authoritative presence in the overseeing of the day-to-day practical delivery of care within the Home.
· Will take responsibility for the safe delivery of care, and act as a role model and expert lead in all the clinical aspects of care.
· Will ensure the highest possible levels of care are maintained by supporting residents with all aspects of daily living.
· Will liaise efficiently and effectively with other professionals and maintain close working relationships within the multi-disciplinary team, such as the district and community nursing teams, GPs, care managers and other health professionals, as appropriate, by conveying information in a timely manner, in a range of formats, to ensure the continuity of care for residents.
· Will keep the manager informed of any issues/potential issues regarding communication with residents and families, members of the home’s multi-disciplinary team and other providers of care and services.
· Will pre-empt changes in residents’ health, well-being or social needs, potential safeguarding issues and concerns relating to the home environment or any resident incidents or accidents within the home.
· To help to devise, organise and support the implementation of the planned programme of care and individual resident outcomes, as set out within individual care plans, ensuring that this meets residents' physical, psychological, spiritual, and all other care needs.
· To conduct, and support senior staff to conduct, care plan audits and monitor how care standards are being implemented; to take corrective action where appropriate.
· Ensure that care plans are evaluated and reviewed on time, monitor the effectiveness of care plans, implementing changes in care when outcomes do not meet care plan goals.
· To ensure that key clinical areas such as risk assessments, accident and incident reporting, are accurately documented and reported according to the Home’s and Care Inspectorate policy.
· To ensure that the Home’s clinical/care performance meets the required care standards and expectations of the Care Inspectorate, NHS and other regulatory bodies.
· To promote equality for all individuals.
· To contribute to the protection of individuals from abuse.
· To assist the Matron to take responsibility for auditing care delivery, developing action plans to rectify areas of weakness, monitor and report to the Matron.
· To ensure the delivery of quality care by continually assessing our residents’ needs and wishes, and ensuring compliance with all legal, regulatory and best practice guidelines.
· To ensures that the Home’s policies and procedures are followed, in accordance with relevant legislation, to meet residents’ needs in a person-centred way.
· To monitor the daily performance of care team members to ensure duties are completed accurately, efficiently and timely and in a manner where care delivery supports individuality and promotes quality and safety.
· To ensure that all care staff are supervised appropriately.
· To assist with the identification of staff training needs and ensuring that they receive the appropriate clinical skills, experience and training.
· To take an active role in promoting and organising training for the team, working in conjunction with external training providers and making effective use of the internal resources of the Home.
· To ensure that staff are kept up to date with current practices.
· To assist the Matron to lead and participate in staff meetings.
· To ensure that the Home’s Policies and Procedures are implemented and understood by all staff.
· Will be aware of the administrative arrangements for the day-to-day running of the Home.
· To assist the Matron with pre-admission assessments and arrangements that are necessary for admissions to the home.
· Will assist the Matron in the drawing up of rotas, to ensure that these meet the current provision of staff to resident ratio guidelines.
· To pre-empt staffing issues and ensure that the Matron is informed of current or future gaps of provision in a timely manner.
· To assist in the recruitment, selection and retention of staff as required.
· To be responsible for the planning and allocation of work carried out by care staff.
· To assist and participate in the Home’s induction procedure for all staff.
· To provide management cover in the absence of the Matron, i.e. ensuring that there is adequate and appropriate staff on duty.
· To support the Matron with delivering reflective practice meetings and yearly staff reviews.
· To undertake responsibilities in relation to Health and Safety as delegated by the Matron and ensure that staff understand and comply with the health and safety policy.
· To be accountable for the efficient management of their own workload and to delegate duties to the senior staff as appropriate.
· To be aware of their own areas for development and training needs and take an active role in the fulfilment of these.
PERSONAL:
· Have the ability to be flexible in hours of work.
· Must be available out of hours on a rota basis for on-call
· This post requires you to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme and undertake the necessary vetting checks.
And any other duties as deemed appropriate by the Matron or Committee.
Requirements
· Sound clinical knowledge, and current experience in the caring or nursing sector is essential
· Genuine interest in working with Older Adults
· Have the desired qualification – must, on application to post, have at least level 3 in Social Care, or equivalent. Candidates should ideally have Level 4 in Social Care, or equivalent, or be willing to obtain it.
· Experience/qualification in safe handling of medicines – the postholder must be able to oversee all aspects of medicine management – ensuring the safe ordering of medicines, and that they are appropriately received, stored and administered to our residents
· Knowledge of the National Care Standards for older people and the requirements of the Care Inspectorate
· Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and in a range of formats
· Competent in using ICT to support the provision of care, HR, and administrative functions of the Home
· Able to effectively prioritise workload
· Able to analyse problems and propose solutions
· Sensitive to and respectful of the values, views and needs of others
· Ability to identify and suggests ideas to improve their area of work and is willing to make new ways of working a success
· Working knowledge of the SSSC codes of practice
