IT Support Assistant

Location: Defence Academy of the United Kingdom, Shrivenham, SN6 8LA

Salary: Competitive plus excellent benefits

Schedule: Perm/FT/37 hours per week

As an IT Support Assistant in our Defence Academy team, you’ll provide vital first- and second-line technical support that helps keep essential technology services running smoothly. Your work will ensure colleagues, students, and stakeholders have the tools and support they need to succeed.

By maintaining IT equipment, supporting users, managing technology assets, and helping deliver reliable digital services, you’ll contribute to an environment that enables learning, development, and operational excellence. What you’ll do as a IT Support Assistant

Provide first- and second-line IT support, resolving incidents and service requests within agreed service levels.
Prepare, configure, deploy, collect, and support end-user devices, hardware, software, and peripherals.
Maintain accurate IT asset records, including auditing equipment and updating asset databases.
Install, configure, and support Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems and associated applications.
Investigate and resolve equipment audit discrepancies and support the disposal of obsolete technology in line with procedures.
Contribute to IT projects, refresh programmes, knowledge management activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Does this sound like you?

Experience providing IT support or working within a technology-focused environment.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate records and complete audits.
Effective communication skills and the ability to support users with varying levels of technical knowledge.
Ability to prioritise workloads, solve problems, and work both independently and collaboratively.
Knowledge of Microsoft 365, Microsoft Intune, Windows desktop operating systems, or ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) principles would be advantageous.

This role requires Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which involves verifying your identity, employment history, nationality, and criminal record to meet government security standards. In addition, depending on the nature of the role, you may need to obtain formal Security Clearance (such as CTC or SC), which includes more detailed background checks on employment, criminal record, and financial history to ensure suitability for working in secure environments. Please note that UK residency requirements may apply for certain levels of clearance. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire so we can identify and provide any support you may need to undertake the role effectively.
