Full job description

We’re looking for an experienced barista to work across our two independent sister venues opposite one another on Saxmundham High Street.

socialbar is a relaxed café and cultural space serving speciality coffee and food by day, with hand-stretched pizza, small plates, wine & cocktails in the evenings.

tap.social is our newly opened independent taproom, focused on great beer, cider and friendly, informal hospitality.

Core shifts

socialbar

Monday 8.30am–3.00pm
Friday 8.30am–3.00pm - occasionally
Saturday 9.30am–3.00pm

tap.social

Friday 3.30pm–10.30pm
Saturday 3.30pm–10.30pm

Ideally you can work Friday and/or Saturday as a daytime/evening double. For the right candidate, we can discuss additional shifts, which may also be available on other days.

What we need

You must have at least 12 months’ recent experience as a barista in a speciality or quality-focused independent café, including:

Dialling in espresso and adjusting grinders
Confident milk steaming and latte art
Making espresso-based drinks independently during service

Experience mainly using automatic machines, or making coffee as a small part of general café work, is not sufficient.

Taproom experience is welcome but can be taught. The role also includes draught service, till use, restocking, cleaning, opening/closing and cashing up.

Applicants must be 18+. You may sometimes be the senior person on site, so you need the maturity and confidence to work independently, hold keys, cash up and deal calmly and firmly with challenging customers or unexpected situations.

Previous keyholder or shift-leader responsibility is strongly preferred.

We’re looking for someone warm, reliable, attentive and comfortable taking initiative without close supervision. Living in or near Saxmundham is preferred or having your own reliable transport.

Suitable applicants will have a short phone call followed by an in-person meeting and practical coffee test.

Pay: £12.71-£13.50 per hour
