About the Role
Gorsey Clough Nursing Home is looking for an experienced and compassionate NMC Registered Nursing Associate to join our day nursing team.
Gorsey Clough is a nurse-led nursing home providing high-quality, person-centred nursing care for older people, including people living with dementia.
You will work alongside the Sister/Charge Nurse and Registered Nurses, supporting the safe and effective running of the shift and delivering high standards of nursing care within your professional scope of practice.
The Nursing Associate role complements the Registered Nurse role and does not replace it.
Key Responsibilities
As a Registered Nursing Associate, you will:
- Provide safe, compassionate and person-centred nursing care.
- Monitor residents' physical, psychological and emotional wellbeing.
- Recognise deterioration or changes in residents' conditions and escalate concerns appropriately to the Registered Nurse.
- Contribute to assessments, risk assessments, care planning and reviews.
- Undertake clinical observations and appropriate nursing interventions within your assessed competence.
- Support wound care, skin integrity, continence and catheter care.
- Undertake blood glucose monitoring, urine testing and specimen collection where appropriate.
- Undertake venepuncture where trained and assessed as competent.
- Administer medicines where appropriately trained, assessed as competent and authorised.
- Support residents receiving palliative and end-of-life care.
- Maintain accurate electronic care and clinical records.
- Participate in nursing handovers and support the effective running of the day shift.
- Liaise with GPs, pharmacies, community healthcare teams and other professionals.
- Communicate effectively and compassionately with residents and their families.
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures.
- Support Care Assistants and other colleagues while working within appropriate professional and delegation boundaries.
Dementia Care
As part of our dementia nursing service, you will provide individualised care that promotes dignity, independence, choice and quality of life.
You will communicate effectively with residents living with dementia, recognise changes that may indicate illness, pain, distress or unmet needs, and work in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Best Interests principles.
Professional Responsibilities
As an NMC Registered Nursing Associate, you will:
- Maintain active NMC registration.
- Work in accordance with the NMC Code and Standards of Proficiency for Nursing Associates.
- Take professional accountability for your actions and omissions.
- Recognise and work within the limits of your competence.
- Escalate matters requiring Registered Nurse assessment or clinical decision-making.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Participate in training, supervision, competency assessments and continuing professional development.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Current NMC registration as a Nursing Associate.
- Recognised Nursing Associate qualification.
- Good clinical and communication skills.
- Understanding of dementia and person-centred care.
- Knowledge of safeguarding and the Mental Capacity Act.
- Ability to recognise deterioration and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Ability to work effectively within a nursing and multidisciplinary team.
- Appropriate right to work in the UK.
Previous experience within a nursing home, dementia service or older people's care would be advantageous.
