Building a sustainable tomorrow

KierBAM are a Joint Venture (JV) partnership between Kier and Bam Nuttall. We are currently delivering the redevelopment project at a Royal Navy site located in Plymouth and we are seeking an experienced Employee Relations Advisor.

The Employee Relations Advisor will provide professional, timely and pragmatic HR support to managers and employees across the project, ensuring the effective delivery of operational HR services throughout the employee lifecycle. The role will support employee relations, attendance management, recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement, HR compliance and organisational change activities.

Working closely with the HRBP, the Employee Relations Advisor will help develop management capability, ensure consistent application of HR policies and procedures, and promote a positive employee experience while maintaining compliance with employment legislation and company standards.

Due to the site being a high-security military naval base, additional security checks will be required – a BPSS level of security clearance is necessary. These checks can take up to 8 weeks to process. Only candidates holding EU, NATO, 5 Eyes, or MISWG member passports and who have been UK residents for the last 5 years can be considered for this role.

Making Possible

As Employee Relations Advisor, you'll be responsible for the following:

Manage employee relations cases including disciplinary, grievance, capability, probation, attendance, performance and conduct matters.
Advise managers on HR policies, procedures and employment legislation.
Conduct workplace investigations and produce investigation reports.
Support formal meetings, hearings and appeals with HR guidance.
Draft employee relations correspondence and outcome letters.
Escalate complex or high-risk cases to senior HR colleagues.
Monitor case progress and ensure timely resolution.
Act as a first point of contact for managers on people-related issues.
Provide coaching on performance, conduct, attendance, wellbeing and development.
Support managers in making fair, compliant and effective people decisions.
Coordinate end-to-end recruitment activities, from vacancy approval to offer management.
Support onboarding, induction and employment documentation processes.
Assist with employee engagement initiatives, surveys and action planning.
Promote wellbeing programmes and support Occupational Health processes.
Contribute to creating a positive, inclusive workplace culture.
Support organisational change, consultation and workforce growth projects.
Assist with workforce planning and succession planning initiatives.
Maintain accurate HR records, systems and employee data.
Produce HR reports, dashboards and monitor key people metrics.
Ensure compliance with company policies, employment legislation, GDPR and continuous improvement of HR processes.

What do you bring to the role?

Essential:

Previous experience in an HR Advisor, HR Officer or equivalent HR generalist role.
Experience managing employee relations cases.
Sound knowledge of UK employment legislation and HR best practice.
Experience advising and coaching line managers.
Experience supporting recruitment and onboarding activities.
Strong organisational and case management skills.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Excellent communication, relationship-building and influencing skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and HR systems.
Pragmatic and commercially aware.
Proactive and solutions focused.
Strong attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
Resilient and able to manage competing priorities.
Collaborative team player with a customer-focused approach.
Professional, credible and approachable.
Committed to fostering an inclusive and respectful workplace.

Desirable:

Experience within construction, infrastructure, energy, defence or regulated environments.
CIPD Level 5 qualified or working towards qualification.
Experience supporting organisational change and consultation activities.
Knowledge of workforce mobilisation and project-based employment practices.
Experience producing HR metrics and management reports.
BPSS Clearance or ability to obtain clearance.
