About Drayton Animal Health

Drayton Animal Health is a UK-based Contract Research Organisation (CRO) specialising in developing and supporting veterinary medicines, feed additives, and plant protection products. Established in 2007 and a proud member of the Celnor Group, we provide high-quality GLP and GCPv-compliant research studies to meet the evolving needs of the animal health industry.

The Role

We are looking for a dedicated Farm Animal Technician with a passion for animal welfare. This is a hands-on role requiring confidence in handling a variety of agricultural animals, including cattle, sheep, pigs, poultry, and horses. You'll be a key part of our team, providing a high level of husbandry and contributing to research that helps our clients develop new farm animal health products. The role is physical and involves manual handling.

Key Responsibilities

As a Farm Animal Technician, you will:

· Provide excellent husbandry and welfare for various farm animal species you work with (including rearing from birth).

· Be Lead Technician on projects with a requirement to be efficient and organised

· Assist on projects such as participating in animal training programmes and handling animals for procedures, working in an efficient and organised approach.

· Liaising with the Named Animal Care and Welfare Officer and Named Veterinary Surgeons regarding the welfare of animals under your care and assist scientific teams with animal sampling and observation.

· Maintain meticulous records of animal health, behaviour, feeding, and veterinary treatments.

· Work in compliance with GLP and GCPv regulations.

· Adhere to strict biosecurity protocols when moving between animal groups.

To comply with all Health & Safety regulations, including SOPs, COSHH and Risk Assessment documentation.

· Keep livestock accommodation scrupulously clean.

· Help with general maintenance duties as needed.

What We're Looking For

Essentials:

· Physically capable of manual labour.

· Meticulous and detail-oriented when following procedures and instructions.

· Accurate and proficient in keeping detailed written records.

· A confident communicator who can work effectively with study leads, team members, vets, welfare officers and clients.

· Flexible and adaptable, willing to work off-site on weekends, or unsocial hours if required (overtime rota is every other weekend).

· A reliable team player who is eager to learn.

· Full driving licence – due to rural location and off-site work

It would be a bonus if you have:

· Experience operating farm machinery (e.g., tractors, trailers, skidsteer, telescopic handlers).

· Familiarity with biosecurity procedures and farm animal husbandry.

· A Home Office Personal Licence or experience working on Home Office regulated studies.

· Experience with Good Clinical Practice (veterinary) and Good Laboratory Practice.

· An animal or science-related higher education degree or equivalent experience.
