About Voices from Care Cymru

Voices from Care Cymru is a national organisation committed to supporting care-experienced children and young people across Wales. We work to ensure that care-experienced young people are heard, valued, supported, and able to influence the decisions, services, and systems that affect their lives.

We are seeking a dedicated, dynamic, and organised Engagement Officer to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about young people’s rights, participation, wellbeing, social engagement, and supporting care-experienced young people to reach their goals.

Job Overview

The Engagement Officer will play a vital role in engaging with care-experienced children and young people across Wales. The successful candidate will support work linked to corporate parenting, regional groups, advisory groups, outreach engagement, events, group sessions, and project delivery.

A key part of the role will involve providing structured one-to-one support to care-experienced young people. This will include wellbeing support and support around getting ready for independent life, with clear six-week goals and recorded outcomes.

The Engagement Officer will be responsible for building positive relationships with young people, developing engagement opportunities, managing projects, recording outcomes, maintaining caseloads, and helping the organisation demonstrate impact through effective reporting.

This role requires someone who is confident working with young people, able to manage multiple priorities, and committed to helping care-experienced young people have their voices heard.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Developing and supporting engagement strategies to increase participation from care-experienced children and young people.
Delivering outreach engagement to ensure young people can access opportunities, support, and participation activities.
Supporting corporate parenting work, regional participation groups, advisory groups, and other engagement forums.
Planning, coordinating, and delivering community events, workshops, group sessions, and outreach activities.
Providing one-to-one wellbeing support to care-experienced young people, with clear six-week goals and outcome reporting.
Providing one-to-one support to young people preparing for independent life, with agreed six-week goals and progress tracking.
Managing projects and campaigns, ensuring activities are delivered on time, within agreed plans, and to a high standard.
Working towards and achieving agreed KPI targets.
Recording case notes, attendance, outcomes, feedback, and caseload information accurately and professionally.
Reporting on young people’s progress, outcomes, engagement levels, and project impact.
Supporting young people to understand their rights and to have their voices heard in the services and decisions that affect them.
Assisting in the development of marketing and communication materials to promote engagement opportunities.
Supporting the promotion of organisational initiatives through appropriate communication channels, including social media where required.
Building positive relationships with young people, professionals, partners, stakeholders, and community organisations.
Supporting fundraising, partnership, or stakeholder engagement activities where appropriate.
Maintaining strong administrative systems and ensuring records are accurate, confidential, and up to date.
Working events, group sessions, workshops, meetings, and other activities as required.
Maintaining professional boundaries and following safeguarding procedures at all times.

Essential Skills and Experience

We are looking for someone who has:

Experience of working with children, young people, communities, or vulnerable groups.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
The ability to engage with diverse audiences and build positive relationships.
Strong organisational and administrative skills.
The ability to manage a caseload and record outcomes accurately.
Experience of planning, coordinating, or delivering projects, events, workshops, or group sessions.
The ability to work towards and achieve KPI targets.
Good IT skills, including confidence using email, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Office, and online systems.
The ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently as well as part of a team.
A commitment to safeguarding, equality, inclusion, and the rights of young people.
An understanding of children’s rights, or a willingness to learn about them.
A full, clean driving licence and willingness to travel as part of the role.

Desirable Skills and Experience

It would be beneficial if applicants have experience or knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

Youth work.
Safeguarding.
Working with care-experienced children and young people.
Charity or voluntary sector work.
Community engagement or participation work.
Project management.
Delivering training, workshops, or group sessions.
Supporting young people with wellbeing, confidence, life skills, or independence.
Social media, marketing, or communications.
Fundraising, partnership work, or stakeholder engagement.
Public health, wellbeing, or behaviour change programmes.

A willingness to learn about children’s rights and how they apply to care-experienced young people.

A commitment to confidentiality, safeguarding, and professional practice.

Training and Support

Full training will be provided as part of the induction process. This will include training relevant to the role, safeguarding, organisational systems, children’s rights, participation, and working with care-experienced children and young people.

Ongoing support and supervision will be provided to help the successful candidate develop in the role.

Voices from Care Cymru is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be required to complete an Enhanced DBS check before starting the role.
