Carey Childcare Centre Nursery Cleaner
Reports to: Nursery Manager
Job Purpose
To maintain a high standard of cleanliness, hygiene and presentation throughout the nursery, ensuring that all areas provide a safe, clean and welcoming environment for children, families and staff.
The successful candidate will take pride in their work and understand the importance of maintaining excellent hygiene standards within an early years setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and maintain all nursery rooms, communal areas, toilets and staff areas.
- Vacuum, sweep and mop floors as appropriate.
- Dust, wipe and sanitise surfaces, furniture, doors and high-touch areas.
- Clean children's tables, chairs and other frequently used surfaces.
- Clean and sanitise toilets, sinks and changing areas.
- Empty bins and dispose of waste safely and appropriately.
- Clean kitchen and food preparation areas in line with nursery hygiene procedures.
- Replenish cleaning and hygiene supplies when required.
- Report any damage, hazards, maintenance issues or concerns to the Nursery Manager.
- Follow the nursery's cleaning schedules and ensure tasks are completed to the required standard.
- Use cleaning products safely and according to manufacturer's instructions.
- Store cleaning products and equipment safely and securely, away from children.
- Follow all nursery policies and procedures, including health and safety, safeguarding and infection-control procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families and staff.
- Support the nursery in maintaining a welcoming, professional and hygienic environment.
Health & Safety
The Cleaner must:
- Follow COSHH requirements and nursery procedures for the safe use and storage of cleaning products.
- Never leave cleaning chemicals or equipment accessible to children.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment where required.
- Report accidents, hazards and maintenance concerns promptly.
- Ensure floors and other areas are left safe following cleaning.
- Follow the nursery's infection-control procedures.
Safeguarding
The Cleaner must:
- Follow the nursery's safeguarding and child protection policies.
- Report any safeguarding concerns immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with children.
Person Specification
Essential
- Previous cleaning experience or a willingness to learn.
- Good attention to detail.
- Reliable, punctual and trustworthy.
- Able to work independently and use initiative.
- Good understanding of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Able to follow instructions, policies and cleaning schedules.
- Positive attitude and professional approach.
Desirable
- Previous experience
- Knowledge of COSHH and safe use of cleaning chemicals.
- Knowledge of infection-control procedures.

Other Requirements
The post is subject to the nursery's recruitment and safeguarding procedures, including appropriate pre-employment checks and references. The successful applicant will be required to complete relevant training as identified by the nursery.

Two references and a full clear DBS certificate will be required prior to commencing employment which we will organise with the successful candidate.
Hours of Work
· 12.5 hrs per week
· Monday -Friday 5.45 pm - 8.15 pm
Rate of pay: £12.71 p/h
