About the Role
BCFD Fire Marshal Safety and Compliance Services is looking for an organised, observant and compliance-focused Fire Safety Compliance Coordinator to support fire safety standards, inspections, documentation and emergency preparedness across client and operational environments.
The successful candidate will help coordinate fire safety checks, maintain compliance records, monitor corrective actions and support the implementation of practical fire prevention procedures. You will work with managers, employees, contractors and external service providers to make sure fire safety responsibilities are clearly understood and consistently maintained.
This role is suitable for someone with experience in fire safety, health and safety, facilities, compliance or building operations who is ready to take greater responsibility for fire safety coordination and inspection readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Fire Safety Inspections: Carry out routine fire safety inspections across workplaces, operational areas and client sites.
Compliance Monitoring: Monitor compliance with established fire safety procedures and internal standards.
Fire Risk Assessment Support: Assist with reviewing and updating fire risk assessments and action plans.
Corrective Actions: Record identified issues and follow up with responsible teams to ensure corrective actions are completed.
Fire Door Checks: Coordinate routine checks of fire doors, escape routes and related safety controls.
Alarm System Monitoring: Maintain records relating to fire alarm testing and scheduled servicing.
Emergency Lighting Checks: Support inspection and documentation of emergency lighting systems.
Escape Route Monitoring: Ensure emergency exits and escape routes remain accessible and appropriately identified.
Signage Checks: Review fire safety and emergency signage for visibility and condition.
Extinguisher Monitoring: Coordinate routine checks of fire extinguishers and associated service records.
Evacuation Procedures: Support development and review of emergency evacuation procedures.
Fire Drills: Coordinate planned fire drills and maintain drill records.
Evacuation Review: Document observations from drills and identify areas requiring improvement.
Fire Marshal Coordination: Support appointed fire marshals and ensure responsibilities are clearly communicated.
Training Coordination: Organise fire awareness, evacuation and fire marshal training where required.
Training Records: Maintain records of completed fire safety training and refresher requirements.
Induction Support: Ensure relevant fire safety information is included in employee and contractor inductions.
Contractor Compliance: Review fire safety documentation provided by contractors and service providers.
Maintenance Coordination: Liaise with contractors regarding fire alarms, emergency lighting, extinguishers and other safety systems.
Inspection Records: Maintain accurate and organised fire safety inspection documentation.
Service Records: Track scheduled inspection and maintenance dates for fire safety equipment.
Action Registers: Maintain fire safety action trackers and monitor completion deadlines.
Incident Reporting: Support reporting and review of fire-related incidents, false alarms and near misses.
Investigation Support: Assist with identifying causes and improvement actions following fire safety incidents.
Emergency Preparedness: Support wider emergency planning and preparedness activities.
Site Documentation: Maintain relevant fire safety information for operational and client locations.
Compliance Reviews: Support internal compliance reviews and external inspection preparation.
Audit Support: Prepare documentation for fire safety audits and regulatory reviews.
Risk Escalation: Escalate significant fire safety concerns promptly to appropriate management.
Occupancy Changes: Review potential fire safety implications when room use or occupancy arrangements change.
Building Changes: Support fire safety reviews associated with refurbishments or changes to layouts.
Permit Coordination: Assist with hot-work permits or other higher-risk work controls where required.
Housekeeping Standards: Monitor storage and housekeeping practices that could create additional fire risk.
Flammable Materials: Support appropriate storage and control of combustible or flammable materials.
Emergency Contacts: Maintain current emergency contact and escalation information.
Performance Reporting: Prepare routine fire safety compliance reports for management.
KPI Monitoring: Track inspections, open actions, training completion and other relevant fire safety indicators.
Trend Analysis: Identify recurring compliance issues and recommend improvement actions.
Policy Support: Assist with updating fire safety procedures and guidance documents.
Document Control: Ensure current fire safety documents are available and appropriately maintained.
Client Support: Provide practical fire safety information to client representatives where required.
Employee Communication: Communicate fire safety expectations clearly to employees and contractors.
Awareness Activities: Support fire prevention awareness campaigns and safety communications.
Site Visits: Attend client and operational sites to support checks, reviews and follow-up activities.
Quality Checks: Review fire safety documentation for accuracy and completeness.
Regulatory Readiness: Help maintain organised records for inspections and external compliance reviews.
Continuous Improvement: Identify practical ways to improve fire safety processes and emergency preparedness.
What We Are Looking For
Experience: Previous experience in fire safety, health and safety, facilities, compliance, building operations or a related environment.
Fire Safety Knowledge: Good understanding of practical workplace fire prevention and emergency procedures.
Inspection Experience: Experience carrying out workplace or building safety inspections.
Risk Assessment Awareness: Familiarity with fire risk assessments and action tracking.
Emergency Procedures: Understanding of evacuation planning and emergency preparedness.
Documentation Skills: Strong ability to maintain accurate inspection, training and compliance records.
Corrective Action Management: Ability to monitor actions and follow up consistently.
Contractor Coordination: Confidence working with external maintenance and service providers.
