Position: Yard Shunter Driver (Class 1 HGV)
Working Hours: Tuesday - Saturday, 11:00–20:00
Job Purpose
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Yard Shunter Driver with a Class 1 HGV licence to join our team in Bellshill. This role involves regular shunting of trailers within the yard, occasional local deliveries to nearby depots, ensuring trailers are clean and compliant with BRC standards, and assisting in the warehouse when required.
The successful candidate will have a hands-on approach to maintaining the yard's efficiency, cleanliness, and safety while supporting wider warehouse and transport operations.
Key Responsibilities
Shunting and Trailer Management
- Operate a Class 1 HGV to shunt trailers within the yard, ensuring they are correctly positioned on and off bays for loading and unloading.
- Move trailers safely and efficiently to maximise space and support smooth operational flow.
- Carry out daily vehicle and trailer checks and report any defects promptly.
Local Deliveries
- Occasionally undertake local deliveries to nearby depots, ensuring goods are transported safely and on time.
- Complete all required paperwork and follow company procedures for deliveries.
Trailer Washing
- Wash trailers regularly to maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in accordance with BRC requirements.
- Complete trailer wash records accurately and maintain all associated documentation.
Yard Organisation
- Allocate parking locations for trailers, ensuring the yard remains organised, safe, and accessible.
- Maintain an efficient yard layout to minimise congestion and support operational requirements.
Warehouse Support
- Assist with unloading goods in the warehouse during busy periods or when required.
- Work collaboratively with warehouse staff to ensure efficient handling of deliveries and stock movements.
Health & Safety Compliance
- Adhere to all company Health & Safety policies and procedures at all times.
- Wear appropriate PPE and promote safe working practices within the yard and warehouse.
- Report any hazards, accidents, or near misses promptly.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of shunting activities, trailer washes, and any other required documentation.
- Report issues with trailers, vehicles, or equipment to the Yard Supervisor or Transport Manager as soon as they arise.
Skills & Experience Required
- Valid Class 1 (Category C+E) HGV licence.
- Previous experience in a yard shunting or HGV driving role.
- Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements within a transport or warehouse environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Flexible, hands-on approach with a willingness to support warehouse operations when required.
- Forklift experience is desirable but not essential.
