Full job description

A Receptionist / GP Care Navigator is a frontline member of a GP practice team who helps patients access the most appropriate healthcare service. The role combines reception, customer service, administration, and patient signposting to improve access to care while supporting the clinical team.

Position hours - 32 to 37 hours a week.

Pay: £12.71 an hour

GP Receptionist / Care Navigator Job Description

Job Title: GP Receptionist / Care Navigator

Reports to: Practice Manager / Reception Manager

Job Purpose:
To provide a professional, compassionate, and efficient first point of contact for patients. The Care Navigator assesses patient enquiries using practice protocols and directs patients to the most appropriate healthcare professional or service while carrying out reception and administrative duties.

Key Responsibilities

Welcome patients in person, over the telephone, and through online systems.
Book, amend, and cancel GP, nurse, and healthcare appointments.
Signpost patients to the most appropriate service, such as a GP, practice nurse, pharmacist, physiotherapist, or community service.
Register new patients and update patient records accurately.
Handle prescription requests and administrative queries.
Respond to emails and online patient enquiries.
Maintain confidentiality and comply with GDPR and NHS policies.
Recognise urgent or emergency situations and escalate appropriately.
Work closely with GPs, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.
Promote self-care and NHS services where appropriate.
Provide excellent customer service in a busy primary care environment.

Typical Qualifications
