Job Purpose
The Distribution Supervisor will be based within our despatch office and warehouse and work as part of a team who ensure all group deliveries are organised and despatched. In a very lively environment, a positive “can-do” attitude is essential.
This will include planning our own transport and external carriers. Good clear communication with our drivers and other departments within the business also an awareness of external influences, such as legislation, drivers’ hours and working time directives are essential.
All forms of transport provide a variety of administrative duties, including logging deliveries, service records and assist with providing monthly reports for the KPI’s within the department and adhering to and maintaining the criteria required to meet the FORS Standard and yearly audits to continually achieve our recognition status.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Promote a safe working environment, leading by example, ensuring all safety issues are reported immediately and challenge unsafe behaviour when necessary.
- Coordinate transport operations, ensuring deliveries are planned, scheduled and completed efficiently using both company vehicles and external carriers.
- Take direct supervisory control of drivers and assist with the warehouse team.
- Monitor delivery performance, maintain accurate transport records and ensure customer orders are despatched accurately and on time.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant transport legislation, vehicle regulations, driver requirements and company policies. Including investigating vehicle collisions and provide information to insurers, investigating drivers fines and advise accordingly.
- Support and maintain FORS accreditation standards, ensuring all associated requirements, documentation and training obligations are met.
- Assist with the yearly audits required to meet the FORS status (Silver).
- Oversee vehicle maintenance activities to ensure fleet availability, safety and legal compliance.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders, responding to enquiries in a professional and timely manner.
- Ensuring clear and concise communication with the sales departments on orders that cannot be completed on time in full.
- Produce operational reports and performance data to support business requirements and continuous improvement.
- To support the Warehouse & Distribution Manager and provide cover for annual leave, or, absence when required.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
- Experience in transport & warehouse environment is essential.
- Strong transport planning, scheduling and coordination skills.
- Good understanding of transport legislation, drivers' hours regulations, Working Time Directive requirements and fleet compliance standards.
- Knowledge of warehouse, distribution, despatch and vehicle maintenance processes.
- Excellent organisational, administrative and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to liaise professionally with customers, suppliers, drivers and internal departments.
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Competent in Microsoft Office and WMS Systems.
- Experience maintaining operational records, transport documentation and performance reports.
- Understanding of FORS requirements or willingness to undertake training.
- Valid UK driving licence required; HGV licence desirable but not essential.
Pay: £36,000.00 per year
