We are looking to recruit a Legal Assistant to join our Agri & Estates team based at our Carlisle office, on a full time basis.
Who are we looking for?
The Agri & Estates department is one of the largest dedicated teams of its kind in the UK. The team represents landowners and high net worth clients who require a high level of support and expert care in order to plan their future affairs. The role has the unique opportunity to work across both aspects of this practice area being Agricultural property work as well as Wills, Trusts and Estate planning.
The successful candidate will be an experienced administrator with strong organisational skills to support the department with specific legal tasks.
A key aspect of this role involves typing from dictation, which forms a significant part of the daily responsibilities. Therefore, excellent audio typing skills and attention to detail are essential.
Key responsibilities include:
- Dealing with client enquiries and new enquiries
- Sorting Incoming/outgoing mail
- Filing physical and digital
- Opening new files and checking/obtaining ID
- Archiving
- Admin support to Head of Department and team
- Preparation of forms
- Assist with preparation of bills
- Credit control
- Initial drafting of documents
- Land Registry - drafting of applications/forms, submitting applications and dealing with requisitions with supervision/support
- Registration of charges at Companies House
- Drafting and submitting SDLT returns
- Post completion – sending documents to the other side, checking Land Registry titles once completed, sending documents to client’s and banks
Knowledge and experience of assisting with property and probate matters is welcomed but not essential. Specific training will be provided as necessary.
The successful candidate will have a friendly, calm and helpful approach to enable them to work closely with the team of legal fee earners on all aspects of this work. The ability to work as part of a team is therefore essential together with excellent communication, and IT skills.
