About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated and proactive Registered Children's Nurse who is passionate about developing clinical staff and services to ensure delivery of safe and effective palliative and end of life care. This role will suit someone who wants to enhance their professional growth in an education role, working both in-house and externally.
You will work closely with the clinical and education teams, supporting competency development and staff through role-modelling, coaching and mentoring, embedding education, learning and research as priorities alongside clinical care. You will coordinate student placements for Chestnut Tree House, liaising with university providers. You will also work with the education team to develop and deliver an external teaching programme.
You will take responsibility for your own professional development, and identify learning and development needs, linking them with the organisational appraisal and objective setting process, to ensure that the role is undertaken effectively.
You'll be
- RSCN/RNC with a minimum of three years nursing/clinical experience in a variety of settings with at least 12 months in a paediatric acute setting
- Degree in relevant health care related subject
- Recognised teaching qualification (Practice Teacher/PGCert Ed or equivalent) or willing to undertake
- Palliative care experience, with demonstrable experience within a paediatric environment managing and coordinating the care of children with complex needs
- Experience of supervision, mentorship and reflective practice
- Evidence of teaching experience in clinical practice and development and delivery of teaching programmes
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and motivate
- Up-to-date, sound knowledge of palliative care including current professional/vocational developments
- Autonomous, able to think laterally, problem solve and work both methodically and flexibly, working to tight and often changing timescales, and be able to cope with uncertainty and change when required
- Own and take responsibility for constructive feedback to improve patient care and/or team working
- Demonstrate emotional resilience to manage excessive exposure to dying people and family/carer distress
- Possess negotiation and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrate ability to work flexibly to meet the challenges and opportunities of working within the hospice environment
- Hold a valid UK driving licence and have use of own car due to location of role
