Source Certain Limited (SCL) is a fast-growing UK technology company providing provenance and traceability solutions across global supply chains. Operating through a main UK entity and two wholly-owned subsidiaries – one in the United States and one in Australia – SCL is at an exciting stage of its development, scaling its commercial operations while building the internal infrastructure to support sustained growth.
The UK entity is the commercial and operational hub of the group, with the majority of revenue, costs, and headcount sitting here. The subsidiaries are operational but smaller in scale, with activity that includes intercompany cross-charges. The business works across multiple time zones and with a broad range of external stakeholders including clients, auditors, banks, insurers, and legal advisers.
This is a broad and hands-on financial controller position, created to give SCL the day-to-day financial management and control it needs as it scales. The role sits at the heart of the business and will work closely with both the CEO and the Fractional CFO, providing accurate financial information, keeping the books in excellent order across all three group entities, and rolling up its sleeves on whatever operational matters need attention.
The right person will be comfortable being the primary finance resource in the business – organised, adaptable, and happy to move between a month-end close and sorting out an insurance renewal in the same morning. This is a genuine opportunity to shape how finance runs at SCL and to grow with the company.
- Ownership of day-to-day bookkeeping across SCL (UK), and its US and Australian subsidiaries, using Xero
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of all income, expenditure, assets, and liabilities across the group
- Management of accounts payable and receivable, including supplier payments and client invoicing
- Monthly bank reconciliations for all entities and currencies
- Preparation of timely monthly consolidated management accounts for review by the CFO and CEO
- Supporting the preparation of statutory accounts and liaising with external auditors
- Managing intercompany cross-charges between SCL UK and its subsidiaries, ensuring these are correctly documented, consistently applied, and appropriately reflected in each entity's accounts
- Experience of intercompany (ICO) accounting, including elimination entries and transfer pricing principles, is strongly advantageous
- Maintaining a clear audit trail across group entities and ensuring consistency of accounting policies
- Producing regular management information including P&L, cash flow, and balance sheet reporting
- Supporting the CFO on financial modelling, forecasting, and scenario analysis as required
- Preparing board-level financial summaries and packs in a clear, accessible format
- Tracking key financial KPIs and flagging variances or risks to the CEO and CFO promptly
- Supporting Tax and VAT return preparation and filing (UK) and liaising with local advisers for US and Australian compliance obligations
- Assisting with year-end close, statutory accounts preparation, and audit management
- Monitoring filing deadlines across all three entities and ensuring the group remains compliant
- Liaising with HMRC, Companies House, and equivalent overseas bodies as required
- Handling a wide range of operational finance tasks as directed by the CEO and CFO – this is a flexible, generalist role in a start-up environment
- Managing commercial insurance policies including annual requotes, renewals, and any mid-year changes
- Administering banking relationships and day-to-day account management across the group
- Supporting procurement, contract management, and supplier relationship administration
- Assisting with HR-adjacent financial processes including payroll coordination (via external payroll provider) and expense management
- Contributing to process improvement as the company grows, including the development of finance policies and procedures
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Minimum two years’ post-qualification experience in a similar hands-on financial controller or senior finance role
- Proven experience working with Xero as the primary accounting platform
- Strong working knowledge of multi-entity group accounting, including intercompany transactions and eliminations
- Comfortable working independently and managing your own priorities in a fast-moving environment
- Excellent attention to detail with a track record of producing accurate, high-quality financial information
- Strong communication skills – able to present financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues and senior stakeholders
- UK-based and able to travel to London or Cambridge for meetings when required
- Experience in a start-up, scale-up, or founder-led business where breadth and flexibility are valued
- Familiarity with multi-currency accounting and the practical challenges of managing overseas subsidiaries (particularly US and Australia)
- Understanding of FRS 102 (UK GAAP) and awareness of IFRS
- Experience managing commercial insurance renewals or other operational finance processes
- Comfort with financial modelling in Excel, Claude and supporting CFO-level analysis
- This role may suit a returner to finance who brings strong prior experience and is looking for a flexible, substantive role with real scope
