Full job description

About the role:

Justteachers is seeking a full-time Therapeutic Support Assistant to join a specialist provision near Oakham starting in September 2026 on a long-term, temporary basis.
The setting supports pupils with a range of social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, alongside associated behavioural and communication difficulties. The provision takes a therapeutic, trauma-informed approach to education, focusing on emotional regulation, relationship-building and personalised support in line with EHCPs.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting pupils’ wellbeing and engagement, working within a structured, supportive environment that prioritises consistency, routine and positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide 1:1 and small group therapeutic support to pupils with SEMH needs
Support pupils with emotional regulation using trauma-informed approaches
Build strong, trusting relationships to promote engagement and wellbeing
Implement behaviour and therapeutic support strategies consistently
Work closely with teachers, therapists and pastoral teams
Support pupils during transitions and unstructured times of the school day
Promote routine, structure and positive coping strategies
Monitor and record pupil progress, wellbeing and behaviour

Pre-requisites:

Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or trauma-related needs (school, care or similar setting desirable)
A calm, patient and emotionally resilient approach
Understanding of therapeutic or trauma-informed practices
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Ability to remain consistent and adaptable in a specialist setting
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
Right to work in the UK

Pay: £104.00-£125.00 per day
