Hours and Pay:
We are flexible regarding both working hours and the structure of this role. Salary/rate and working hours will be agreed with the successful candidate depending on their experience, qualifications and whether the position is full-time, part-time or self-employed.

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Accountant / Finance Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day accounting and financial management of our businesses.

This is a hands-on role for someone who is confident managing a broad range of accounting responsibilities independently. We are looking to bring more of our accounting function in-house, so the successful candidate will play an important role in managing our financial processes and providing accurate financial information to management.

We are flexible regarding the structure of the position and would consider full-time, part-time or self-employed/contract arrangements for the right candidate.

Sage 50 experience is essential.

Responsibilities:

Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using Sage 50.
Manage purchase and sales ledgers and oversee accounts payable and receivable.
Carry out bank, credit card and other account reconciliations.
Prepare regular management accounts and financial reports.
Prepare and monitor budgets and cash-flow forecasts.
Monitor company income, expenditure and financial performance.
Prepare and submit VAT returns.
Manage and process company payroll, including relevant payroll reporting and submissions.
Maintain accurate payroll and employee payment records.
Prepare financial information and records required for year-end accounts.
Work alongside external accountants where specialist or statutory input is required.
Ensure appropriate accounting procedures, controls and records are maintained.
Assist management with financial planning and provide clear financial information to support business decisions.
Monitor outstanding debtors and creditors.
Review existing accounting processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and financial controls.
Ensure relevant financial deadlines and regulatory requirements are met.
Undertake other accounting and finance duties as required.

Requirements:

AAT Level 3 or Level 4 qualification – essential.
Previous Sage 50 experience – essential.
Previous experience working in an Accountant, Finance Manager, Senior Accounts or similar position.
Strong practical experience of bookkeeping and general accounting.
Experience preparing management accounts, budgets and cash-flow forecasts.
Experience preparing VAT returns.
Experience managing and processing payroll.
Strong understanding of accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Good knowledge of financial controls and accounting procedures.
Strong Excel and general IT skills.
Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
Ability to work independently and take ownership of the accounting function.
Ability to manage deadlines and prioritise workload effectively.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Good written and verbal communication skills.

Previous experience in a similar role is highly desirable.
