1st Step Education and Training is a specialist secondary alternative education provider supporting vulnerable young people to re-engage with education and achieve positive outcomes. We deliver a range of vocational programmes from our Leicester City Centre base and within schools across the East Midlands.
Our learners may have been excluded from mainstream education, be attending on reduced timetables, be at risk of exclusion, or require additional support to access learning. Due to continued growth, we are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Nail Technician Tutor to join our team.
The Role
As a Nail Technician Tutor, you will deliver engaging and practical nail technology courses to small groups of learners either at our Leicester training centre or within schools across the East Midlands. Course content and lesson plans are pre-prepared, allowing you to focus on delivering high-quality learning experiences and supporting student progress.
You will work with young people from a range of backgrounds and abilities, helping them develop vocational skills, confidence, and employability while promoting positive attitudes towards learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver pre-planned Nail Technician courses to groups of students.
- Teach learners both in-house and within partner schools across the East Midlands.
- Create a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment.
- Support and encourage pupil participation, achievement, and progression.
- Adapt teaching approaches to meet a variety of learning styles and individual needs.
- Assess and mark student work in line with course requirements.
- Monitor learner progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Maintain accurate learner records and documentation.
- Promote positive behaviour and professional standards within sessions.
- Act as a positive role model for young people.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and school staff to support learner success.
- Adhere to safeguarding, health and safety, and organisational policies at all times.
Person Specification
Essential
- Previous industry experience as a Nail Technician.
- Relevant Nail Technician qualifications.
- Excellent practical knowledge of nail treatments, techniques, and industry standards.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage, motivate, and inspire young people.
- A patient, calm, and professional approach.
- Ability to adapt delivery methods to suit different learning styles and abilities.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Desirable
- Previous teaching, training, coaching, or mentoring experience.
- A recognised teaching or assessor qualification.
- Experience working with young people within education, alternative provision, youth work, or similar settings.
- Understanding of SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Training and Development
A teaching qualification is not essential for this role. We welcome applications from experienced Nail Technicians who are passionate about sharing their skills and knowledge with young people.
Successful candidates without a teaching qualification will be supported through ongoing training and professional development opportunities to develop their teaching and educational practice.
