Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced CNC Miller / Setter / Operator to join our manufacturing team in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled CNC machinist to take responsibility for programming, setting and operating a Hartford Vertical Machining Centre, equipped with Fanuc control and a 4th axis.
Working from 2D and 3D engineering drawings, you will manufacture precision components to demanding specifications and tight tolerances, playing an important role in maintaining the quality and performance of our specialist drilling equipment.
THE ROLE
You will be responsible for:
- Programming offline, setting and operating a CNC vertical machining centre.
- Working confidently from 2D and 3D engineering drawings.
- Selecting appropriate cutting tools and determining suitable feeds and speeds.
- Setting and adjusting cutting offsets.
- Setting up and using jigs, fixtures, vices and other work-holding equipment.
- Carrying out first-off inspections and making program adjustments where required.
- Producing precision components to tight tolerances and high-quality standards.
- Inspecting finished components using precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, verniers and thread gauges.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for an experienced CNC machinist who can demonstrate:
- Previous experience as a CNC Miller / Programmer / Setter / Operator.
- Proven experience programming, setting and operating a vertical machining centre.
- A strong understanding of cutting tools, feeds, speeds and different raw materials.
- Good knowledge of work-holding methods, including jigs, fixtures and vices.
- The ability to confidently interpret 2D and 3D engineering drawings.
- Experience carrying out component inspections and making adjustments to achieve required tolerances.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Apprenticeship trained or equivalent practical experience.
