Pastoral Assistant

Scale 6 Point 13-18 (£29,064 - £31,537 FTE)

Working two or three days per week as part of a job share, term time only plus non-pupil days and up to 6 days summer holiday working

Required: September 2026

Closing Date: Tuesday 14 July at 12.00 noon. interviews will take place for suitable candidates on receipt of application.

An opportunity has arisen for the position of Pastoral Assistant to start in September 2026 to provide support to students and parents in terms of positive behaviour, attitude, attendance, physical wellbeing and pastoral care to enable students to make relevant progress and engage in their learning.

The successful applicant will be a committed team player with strong administrative and interpersonal skills. The role will involve providing pastoral support for a Key Stage (to be determined). In addition, to support the Pastoral Leader with administration for the relevant year groups.

A working knowledge of a school environment, policies and procedures, including attendance, would be a distinct advantage as well as experience of dealing with external agencies.

Duties

To support and assist the Year Leaders, Associate Principals and other senior staff with pastoral matters as appropriate.
To organise and support the running of events e.g. Parent Consultation Evenings, educational trips and visits etc.
To attend and contribute to Parent Information Meetings.
To provide support during the examination sessions and Results Days.
To attend pastoral team meetings and taking SMART minutes for distribution to SLT and meeting attendees via the Office
To assist with daily monitoring of uniform, attendance and punctuality and to follow up issues.
To assist the Pastoral Leaders in conducting investigations into student behaviour issues and/or issues concerning students.
To support the Year Leaders with the analysis of the attendance and punctuality data and to support the implementation of appropriate strategies for improvement.
To arrange meetings with parents, attend and taking SMART minutes as appropriate.

· To liaise with parents keeping them updated of ongoing issues and offering options for parental support when needed.

To assist with before, after school, break, lunch time and study support supervisory duties and registers as necessary.
To respond to individual students’ needs by implementing a range of strategies including access to basic counselling and weekly 1-1 pastoral check ins.
To attend weekly meetings with MHST, complete subsequent referrals, maintain appointment spreadsheet
To liaise with YES counsellor to discuss potential referrals, create referrals and update/maintain appointment spreadsheet
To ensure that Child Protection and Safeguarding matters are added to CPOMS in a timely manner and passed to the Designated Safeguarding Lead/Deputies in accordance with statutory and school policy.
To liaise with outside agencies as necessary e.g. Counsellors, Essex Social Care, MECES, CAMHS, EWMHS, The Attendance Team, Health Care professionals e.g. School Nurse.
To liaise with the SENCo as appropriate.
To provide assistance/support for students with additional needs
To complete the day to day administrative tasks including maintaining SIMs records relating to student behaviour/ sanctions/rewards and filing.
Ensure students behaviour is in line with our behaviour policy and will support students who have been bullied or those who are exhibiting unacceptable behaviours.
To aid transition of students between key stages and transfer of data.
To assist with the organisation and preparation of Form Tutor, PSHCE and careers resources and liaise with potential external speakers.
To provide administrative support for and promoting the use of the AWARDS System.
To liaise with the Administrative Technician regarding updating displays and information on the Year Group notice boards, celebrating individual and group successes, including UCAS information and wellbeing strategies.
To gather feedback and ideas from students that helps to improve procedures.
To respect confidentiality and data protection regulations at all times.
To undertake continuous professional development including a first aid qualification
To contribute, along with the Associate Principals and Year Leaders, to the promotion of the school’s corporate identity and a sense of belonging (through assemblies, visits, year events etc.).
To contribute to the school’s wider activities and Alpha Trust as required.
To contribute to the review and evaluation of the annual pastoral development plan.
To provide first aid assistance to students and staff (with training).
To assist with 11+ testing day.
To support with the integration of CTTC students attached to the school as part of the Colchester-based programme.
