Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice Chef to join our culinary team here at the Sea Trout. This entry-level position offers a valuable opportunity to develop foundational skills in food preparation, cooking, and kitchen operations within a professional environment. The successful candidate will gain practical experience working alongside experienced chefs, contributing to the creation of high-quality dishes and ensuring food safety standards are maintained. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about pursuing a career in the culinary arts and eager to learn in a dynamic setting.

Responsibilities

Assist in food preparation, including chopping, peeling, and measuring ingredients under supervision
Support the cooking process by preparing ingredients and following recipes accurately
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen workspace in accordance with food safety regulations
Help with meal assembly and presentation to ensure dishes meet quality standards
Follow health and safety guidelines diligently to uphold hygiene standards within the kitchen
Assist with stock rotation, inventory checks, and storing ingredients appropriately
Support senior chefs during busy service periods by preparing basic components of dishes
Contribute to maintaining a positive team environment by working collaboratively with colleagues

Requirements

Passion for cooking and a keen interest in developing culinary skills
Basic knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and food safety practices
Previous experience in a restaurant or catering environment is advantageous but not essential
Willingness to learn new skills and take direction from experienced chefs
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment
Good organisational skills and attention to detail
Flexibility to work shifts as required, including evenings and weekends if necessary
A positive attitude, reliability, and strong work ethic
