Sports Coach

Type: Contract / Long-term / Supply (depending on availability)
Location: Cardiff & surrounding areas • Start date: ASAP
Hours: Full-time (part-time considered)
Pay: Competitive rates dependent on experience and qualifications

Are you a passionate sports coach, sports science graduate, or aspiring educator looking to transfer your skills into a rewarding role within secondary education?

Elementa Support Services is working in partnership with supportive and forward-thinking secondary schools to recruit enthusiastic Sports Coaches and PE Specialists who can inspire young people through physical activity, teamwork, and positive role modelling.

This is an excellent opportunity for sports coaches, recent graduates in Sport, Exercise Science, Physical Education, or related subjects, and individuals with coaching backgrounds who are looking to gain valuable school-based experience and build a long-term career in education.

Your experience motivating teams, leading sessions, managing behaviour, building confidence, and supporting wellbeing are highly transferable skills that schools value greatly.

About the Role

You will:

Deliver engaging PE lessons, practical activities, and sports sessions across KS3 and KS4
Support students to develop teamwork, resilience, confidence, and healthy lifestyles
Supervise classes and maintain a positive, safe, and well-managed learning environment
Adapt activities to support students of varying abilities and needs
Promote positive behaviour, wellbeing, safeguarding, and inclusion at all times
Build strong relationships with students, staff, and wider school communities
Support extracurricular sports clubs, enrichment activities, and school events where appropriate

We welcome applicants from coaching and sporting backgrounds who may not yet have formal teaching qualifications but can demonstrate:

Experience leading sports coaching sessions, teams, or group activities
Strong communication and motivational skills
Confidence managing groups of young people

A passion for supporting young people’s development and wellbeing
Understanding of teamwork, discipline, and inclusive practice

What We’re Looking For

To be considered, candidates must have:

Experience working with children or young people in coaching, education, sport, or community settings
A passion for education and supporting young people
Strong behaviour management and communication skills
An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply (Elementa can assist)
The right to work in the UK

Desirable:

Degree in Sports Science, Physical Education, Exercise Science, or related field
Relevant coaching qualifications (FAW, UEFA, Level 2 Coaching, etc.)
Experience within secondary schools or educational settings
Interest in progressing into teaching, PGCE, or school-based training routes

Successful completion of a 12-week / 60 paid day employment trial period

ELEMENTA CANDIDATE COMMITMENT

Weekly pay – no waiting for monthly payroll cut-off dates; Elementa pays one week in lieu
PAYE contract – unless requested otherwise, providing full employment protections
