Full job description

Maintenance Operative – The Ferns Care Home, Shrewsbury SY3 9ED

Please note: we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role. Applicants must be aged 18 or over.

The Ferns Care Home is a welcoming converted older property and located just a short drive from the town centre. We are looking for an experienced Maintenance Operative to maintain the home’s premises, equipment and accommodation to a safe, serviceable and welcoming standard.

Hours: 30 hours per week. Shifts are 8.00am to 2.00pm.

Salary: £13.50 per hour

Key Responsibilities

To undertake planned preventative maintenance and audit schedule.
To ensure all areas of the home are in a good safe condition for residents, staff and visitors.
To ensure all areas of the home are aesthetically pleasing by undertaking painting and decorating; and performing general maintenance tasks.
To undertake fire safety, water hygiene, legionella, gas, electricity checks to ensure all are in good working order, liaising with the registered manager for any remedial works required.
Work with contractors to ensure gardens, grounds and external areas are safe, tidy and presentable.
Use digital systems and approved devices for auditing, recording and monitoring.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

Has previous experience in a similar maintenance role
Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check (we will cover the cost)
Strong attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetics
Ability to perform physical tasks and work at heights
Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team
A proactive and problem-solving attitude
