Job Title: Grounds Persons – Sports Turf Maintenance, Renovations & Construction

Location - Multiple sites – sports facilities and fine turf venues

Salary - TBC - dependent on experience

Contract Type - Full-time, permanent, some weekend (paid at overtime) available.

Job Overview

We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Grounds Persons to join a specialist sports turf and greenkeeping contractor working across maintenance, renovations, and construction projects.

The role involves direct work across a wide range of fine turf and sports surfaces, including cricket squares, bowls greens, croquet lawns, football pitches, and other high-quality turf environments. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career within professional sports turf and fine turf construction.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance

· Routine maintenance of fine turf and sports surfaces

· Mowing using pedestrian cylinder mowers and ride-on equipment

· Strimming, edging, and presentation work

· Line marking for sports pitches and playing areas

· Maintaining consistently high standards of surface quality

Renovations

· Assisting with end-of-season and in-season renovations

· Scarification, aeration, overseeding, and top dressing

· Cricket square and outfield renovation works

· Supporting bowls and croquet surface preparation and recovery

Construction & Improvement Works

· Assisting with sports pitch construction and reconstruction projects

· Turf preparation, levelling, and finishing works

· Drainage works (where applicable)

· Supporting installation of new fine turf surfaces

General Duties

· Operating and maintaining machinery safely and efficiently

· Carrying out daily machinery checks and basic maintenance

· Working to method statements, risk assessments, and health & safety standards

· Working across multiple sites as part of a mobile team

· Representing the company professionally at client sites

Skills & Experience

Essential

· Previous experience in grounds maintenance, sports turf, or greenkeeping

· A genuine interest in fine turf and sports surfaces

· Strong work ethic and attention to detail

· Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

· Willingness to travel between sites with occasional overnight stays

· Full UK driving licence

Desirable

· Experience working on fine turf surfaces (cricket, bowls, croquet, football)

· Renovation and construction experience within sports turf

· Pedestrian cylinder mower experience

· Pitch marking and setting out experience

· PA1 / PA6 spraying certificates

· Relevant sports turf, greenkeeping, or horticultural qualifications
