Full job description

The Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) is an armed police service that’s dedicated to the nuclear industry. Our vision is to be recognised as a provider of a world-class service for the protection of nuclear material and facilities. Given the critical nature of our work, it’s vital that we recruit skilled and capable professionals to our experienced team. As Operational Communications Technician, you’ll play a key role in keeping our officers in constant contact.

Our Operational Communications Team ensures that our front-line officers are able to communicate with each other day-to-day, and with other emergency services in the event of an incident. It will be your responsibility to support the team in providing an intelligent delivery function and additional capacity for core activities. The nature of this role demands keen attention to detail and an ability to work in a secure environment.

Your role will be vital to deliver an effective business as usual service capability, as well as getting involved in a variety of projects, including the transition from Airwave to the new Emergency Services Network (ESN). You will plan, implement, and deliver specific work streams and projects, and be responsible for resolving faults and issues relating to devices fitted within vehicles or fixed positions and site-specific and specialist kit and equipment.

The role holder will provide planning, support and delivery activities relating to the Operational Communications Team scope of work, adopting and developing best practices such as ITIL, Lean Six Sigma and Prince 2 and use these to engage in and lead OC workstreams and projects through to completion.

Key Experience:

Experience within Radio Engineering (or a related technical field), in an emergency service or similar organisation.
Knowledge on how to install, integrate, and maintain technical radio or communication systems.
A relevant degree, an equivalent vocational qualification or relevant work experience.
The ability to capture and document user and technical requirements.
Effective communication and team-working skills.
A willingness to travel to other sites as required and a full UK driving licence, as some of our sites are in remote locations.

Please note that this role will initially be based at our HQ in Culham, Oxfordshire until our relocation to Harwell, Oxfordshire in Autumn 2026
