Full job description

We are seeking a hardworking and reliable Scrap Metal Labourer to join our team. The successful candidate will assist with the sorting, processing, and handling of scrap metal while maintaining a safe and organised work environment. This role involves manual labour, operating basic equipment, and working both indoors and outdoors.

Key Responsibilities

Sort and separate ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Load and unload scrap materials from vehicles and containers.
Assist with the dismantling and processing of scrap metal.
Operate hand tools and basic machinery safely and efficiently.
Keep the yard clean, tidy, and free from hazards.
Follow all health and safety procedures, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Assist customers delivering scrap materials when required.
Identify and remove non-recyclable or hazardous materials.
Support other team members with general yard duties as required.
Report equipment faults, safety concerns, or incidents to supervisors.

Skills and Experience

Essential

Good level of physical fitness and ability to perform manual handling tasks.
Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.
Strong awareness of health and safety practices.
Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Desirable

Previous experience in recycling, waste management, construction, or a scrapyard environment.
Forklift licence (or willingness to obtain one).
Experience operating loading equipment or machinery.
Basic knowledge of different metal types and recycling processes.

Working Conditions

Full-time position.
Outdoor and warehouse-based work.
Regular lifting, bending, and manual handling.
PPE must be worn at all times.

Pay: £13.00-£15.00 per hour
