Full job description

Overview

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated HGV / LGV / Technician / Mechanic / Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting a variety of heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, ensuring optimal performance and safety standards. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a strong background in mechanical, electrical, and fabrication work to develop their career within a dynamic environment. Candidates should possess a proactive attitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Duties

Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on heavy vehicles such as lorries, excavators, and forklifts
Diagnose faults using schematics and electrical diagrams; perform repairs accordingly
Fabricate or modify components using welding, soldering, and hand tools to meet operational requirements
Repair or replace mechanical parts including engines, transmissions, brakes, and suspension systems
Utilise power tools and specialised equipment for assembly, disassembly, and repair tasks
Perform electrical repairs involving wiring, circuit boards, and electrical systems within vehicles and machinery
Assist with equipment repair and maintenance to minimise downtime and optimise efficiency
Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations; maintain a clean and organised workspace
Keep detailed records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities for compliance purposes

Qualifications

Proven experience in vehicle or equipment repair with strong mechanical knowledge
Proficiency in reading schematics, electrical diagrams, and technical manuals
Skilled in fabrication techniques such as welding and soldering
Experience working with heavy machinery including excavators and forklifts is desirable
Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and assembly processes
Ability to perform heavy lifting safely; physically fit to handle demanding tasks
Good understanding of electrical systems within vehicles or machinery
Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail
Customer service orientation; able to communicate effectively with colleagues and clients
Relevant qualifications in automotive engineering or mechanical fitting are advantageous
