We’re looking for a hands-on Head of Maintenance to join the opening team at Elysium St Mawes and help us make sure our new hotel looks beautiful, works brilliantly and stays that way.

The Elysium Collection was created for those who believe time away should be anything but ordinary.

Each destination has its own character, story and sense of place, but they all share the same Elysium spirit: relaxed luxury, thoughtful details, warm people and just the right amount of indulgence.

And behind that effortless guest experience, we need someone who notices when something isn't quite right – and takes pride in putting it right.

The role

As our Head of Maintenance, you’ll take ownership of the maintenance, safety and upkeep of Elysium St Mawes.

This isn’t a role where you’ll spend your days behind a desk managing a list of contractors. We’re looking for someone who likes to get stuck in.

From fixing a problem in a guest bedroom and carrying out preventative maintenance to coordinating specialist contractors and keeping on top of statutory compliance, you’ll be the person we rely on to keep the hotel running smoothly.

You’ll work closely with our General Manager, Housekeeping and the wider hotel team to make sure every part of the property receives the same care and attention we give to our guests.

What you'll be doing

Taking day-to-day responsibility for maintenance across the hotel.
Carrying out general repairs and practical maintenance yourself wherever appropriate.
Making sure bedrooms, bathrooms, public spaces and back-of-house areas are maintained to an exceptional standard.
Spotting potential problems before our guests do.
Creating and managing an effective planned preventative maintenance programme.
Responding quickly when an unexpected maintenance issue arises.
Managing specialist contractors, engineers and local suppliers.
Keeping on top of statutory inspections, servicing, testing and certification.
You will be responsible for ensuring our Spa is always operational, ensuring the temperature is just right, and the chemical levels are safe
Monitoring equipment, energy and water usage and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency.
Planning work carefully to minimise disruption to our guests.
Keeping accurate maintenance and compliance records.
Helping the whole team take pride in looking after our hotel.

Who we're looking for who

Probably already has experience in hotel maintenance, facilities, property maintenance or a similar hands-on role. More importantly, you’ll be practical, resourceful and someone who naturally takes ownership. You’ll be the kind of person who sees a problem and thinks “I’ll sort that” rather than walking past it.

You’ll need:

Strong practical and general maintenance skills.
Experience of planned and preventative maintenance.
A good understanding of health safety and property compliance.
Confidence managing contractors and specialist suppliers.
The ability to diagnose problems and know when to call in an expert.
Great organisational skills and attention to detail.
The ability to prioritise when several things need your attention at once.
A calm, positive approach when something unexpectedly stops working!

A relevant trade, engineering, electrical, plumbing or facilities qualification would be a real advantage, and previous experience within a hotel or high-quality hospitality environment would be ideal.

About St Mawes, Cornwall

St. Mawes is a pretty village that once used to be a fishing port. Narrow streets and cottages help to give St. Mawes a quaint feel, albeit with all the modern facilities you could need. There’s a treasure trove of beaches, coves, and creeks all along the Roseland Heritage Coast, including beaches that are perfect for swimming and sunbathing.

You can take leisurely strolls along the coast, spend time relaxing on the beach or enjoy serene boat trips. If you are more active you can make the most of the wonderful walking trails and maybe take part in any of the water sport activities available. Our St. Mawes hotel also makes an excellent base from which to explore the region.
