Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Pipe Welder to join our dynamic fabrication team.
The Pipe Welder is responsible for the fabrication and welding of pipework, gas meter modules, Pressure Reduction Station (PRS) modules, welded fabrications and associated assemblies to the required quality, safety and manufacturing standards.
Working closely with Production, Design and Quality, the role will ensure all welding and fabrication work is completed accurately, efficiently and in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications and approved welding procedures and coded welding standards.
This is a hands-on manufacturing role requiring a high level of practical welding and fabrication experience. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake and maintain welding coding to the company's approved procedures as required, work independently, produce consistently high-quality welds and contribute to maintaining efficient production processes.
Key Responsibilities
Welding & Fabrication
- Carry out high-quality TIG and MIG welding of pipework, fittings, steel fabrications and associated assemblies.
- Fabricate pipework and welded assemblies in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications.
- Interpret technical drawings, welding symbols, dimensions and fabrication requirements.
- Prepare, fit and align components prior to welding.
- Ensure welds meet the required quality and visual standards.
- Carry out welding in different positions and on a range of pipe sizes and components.
- Complete fabrication and welding work to agreed production schedules and deadlines.
- Identify and rectify welding and fabrication defects where required.
- Maintain a high standard of workmanship across all completed products.
Production Support
- Work closely with Production and Design to resolve welding and fabrication issues.
- Provide practical input into the manufacturability of designs and fabricated products.
- Support the assembly and completion of gas meter modules, PRS modules and bespoke steel products.
- Assist with prototype builds, modifications and product improvements where required.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
- Ensure welding equipment, tools and work areas are maintained in good working condition.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all welding and fabrication work is completed in accordance with company procedures, approved welding procedures and quality requirements.
- Work to the company's coded welding standards and maintain the required level of welding competency.
- Undertake welding coding and qualification testing to the company's procedures where required.
- Maintain current welding qualifications and ensure coding remains valid where applicable.
- Carry out visual inspection of completed welds and identify any defects or areas requiring rework.
- Complete relevant production and quality documentation accurately.
- Maintain traceability of materials and components where required.
- Report quality issues, non-conformances or technical concerns to the Workshop Manager or appropriate person.
- Work in accordance with all relevant health and safety requirements.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve welding, fabrication and production processes.
- Support initiatives to improve quality, efficiency and reduce waste.
- Contribute practical knowledge and experience to the development of improved manufacturing methods.
- Promote good welding and fabrication practices across the manufacturing environment.
Operational Performance
- Complete welding and fabrication activities in line with agreed production schedules.
- Maintain a consistent level of productivity without compromising quality.
- Ensure work is completed accurately and right first time wherever possible.
- Communicate any production, technical or material issues that may affect delivery timescales.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across Production, Design and Quality.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Minimum 5 years' experience in TIG & MIG welding.
- Proven experience in pipe welding and fabrication.
- Strong understanding of welding and fabrication processes.
- Ability to accurately interpret engineering drawings and welding symbols.
- Experience working to coded welding standards and approved welding procedures, or the ability and willingness to undertake coding to company procedures.
- Ability to produce consistently high-quality welds.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good understanding of workshop health and safety requirements.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider manufacturing team.
- Reliable, organised and able to work to agreed production timescales.
Desirable
- CSWIP 3.0 Welding Inspector qualification.
- CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector qualification.
- Experience within the gas, utilities, pressure systems or associated engineering sectors.
- Experience working to formal welding procedures and quality standards.
- Experience working from detailed fabrication and manufacturing drawings.

Pay: £32,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
