Woodworking Operative
40 hours per week 07:45-1630hrs Monday to Thursday, 07:15-12:15 Friday – overtime available.
Hourly rate negotiable for the right experience
28 days holiday plus your Birthday off

From our workshop in the heart of the Midlands, Choice Interiors are traditional, bespoke cabinet makers, creating beautiful kitchens, bedroom cabinetry and other exquisite custom-made furniture.
Established in 1987, we are renowned for our personal service, design skills, craftsmanship, attention to detail and extensive after sales care.
Due to an increased workload, we require an experienced woodwork operative for our factory in Birmingham.
You will be expected to operate/have experience with the following machinery:
- table saw
- edge bander
- spindle moulder
- belt sanders
- overhead routers
- other associated woodworking tools
- experience of paint spraying would be beneficial, but not mandatory. Training will be provided.
The work you will undertake can be very much of a manual and physical nature, with the lifting of large, heavy and sometimes awkward items – you must therefore be physically fit.
It is crucial you are flexible in your approach to work, have a high level of initiative, motivation and a can-do attitude, with the ability to seek out solutions to problems. You will support the manufacturing process to ensure that we are working cost-effectively and be heavily involved in seeking out continuous improvements.
We take health and safety very seriously and as such it is important that maintenance and regular safety checks are carried out on all our machines and any issues reported immediately.
The role itself:
- Ability to follow technical drawings, listings and instructions.
- To Select appropriate materials, fittings, and tools for each task.
- Cut resources down to size, accurately and as needed.
- Create standard and customised components of/for cabinets.
- Gather the elements of each cabinet for assembling the final product.
- Apply sealant, varnish, and paint to cabinets, if required.
- Inspect each completed item to ensure that it has been constructed accurately, and that the necessary finishes have been applied. Escalate any quality issues spotted.
- Repair elements of cabinets that have been incorrectly made or returned for remedial works.
- Wear the requisite PPE and take necessary precautions to remain safe.
- Advise on any specialist or appropriate care for finished products upon request.
- Attend Site as reqd.
Additionally/in combination:
- Attend weekly briefings
- Liaise on a daily basis with senior operatives to ensure production targets are being met
- Following job sheets to check, measure, cut and produce to correct specifications, challenge as reqd.
- Using a variety of tools to cut, assemble and finish products
- Regular inspection of tools and machinery, reporting any defects immediately
- Carrying out visual quality checks throughout the process
- Loading/Unloading and sometimes delivering finished products
- General housekeeping duties
- An open and flexible attitude towards overtime
- Be able to drive, as site work (private homes etc) may be required from time to time
- Ability to meet tight deadlines without sacrificing workmanship.
- Ability to work under instruction, listen, take guidance and an overall willingness to learn
- Basic awareness of relevant Health & Safety requirements
- Flexibility and willingness to perform additional tasks and duties as required/take initiative in regard to ensuring good housekeeping in the workplace.
- Positive mental attitude.
- Always represent the Company in a positive and professional manner.
