Full job description

Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial vehicle maintenance and repair, either HGV or PCV, demonstrating a keen eye for detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship. This role involves diagnosing issues, performing repairs, and ensuring that all vehicles are safe and roadworthy. All periodic inspections, annual MOTs and major repairs are outsourced to a local supplier so this role is more for lighter duties, repairs and general upkeep of our buses.

Duties

Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles to identify mechanical issues
Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, brake repairs, and tyre rotations
Diagnose problems using diagnostic equipment and tools
Repair or replace defective parts and components
Maintain accurate records of all services performed on vehicles
Communicate effectively with the Transport Manager regarding repairs and maintenance needs
Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations
Keep the workshop clean and organised

Skills

Proficient in commercial repair techniques and practices
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex mechanical issues
Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
Good communication skills for interacting with management and staff
Familiarity with diagnostic equipment and tools used in vehicle maintenance
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Previous experience in a similar role is advantageous but not essential
