Finance Assistant

Contract Type

Permanent - Full time or Part time will be considered

Salary

£24,000–£28,000 per annum, depending on experience

Role Purpose

To support the finance function by maintaining accurate financial records, processing financial transactions efficiently, and providing administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the finance department.

Key Responsibilities

Purchase Ledger

· Process supplier invoices accurately and in a timely manner.

· Match invoices to purchase orders and goods receipts where applicable.

· Reconcile supplier statements and investigate differences.

· Resolve supplier invoice queries with internal departments and suppliers.

· Assist with preparing supplier payment runs.

Sales Ledger

· Raise sales invoices and credit notes accurately.

· Allocate customer receipts to customer accounts.

· Monitor outstanding debt and support credit control activities.

· Respond to customer account queries professionally.

Banking and Cash Management

· Process daily cash receipts and payments.

· Complete bank reconciliations.

· Assist with cashflow reporting and monitoring of bank accounts.

Month-End Support

· Assist with month-end close procedures and account reconciliations.

· Support accruals, prepayments and fixed asset record updates.

· Provide information required for management reporting.

General Finance Duties

· Process employee expenses in line with company policy.

· Maintain accurate accounting records and electronic filing systems.

· Support VAT return preparation, audit requests and year-end procedures.

· Undertake other finance and administrative duties as required.

Skills and Experience

Essential

Previous experience in a finance, accounts or bookkeeping role.

· Good understanding of basic bookkeeping principles.

· Competent Microsoft Excel skills.

· Strong numerical ability and attention to detail.

· Clear communication skills and confidence dealing with queries.

· Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.

Desirable

· AAT qualified, part-qualified or studying towards AAT.

· Experience using accounting software such as Dynamics 365 Business Central, Sage, Xero or QuickBooks.

· Experience with purchase ledger, sales ledger and bank reconciliations.

· Knowledge of VAT processes and financial controls.

Technical Skills

· Use Excel formulas such as SUM, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, IF statements and PivotTables.

· Maintain accurate electronic filing systems and audit trails.

· Produce clear financial reports and reconciliations.

· Work confidently with ERP/accounting systems and Microsoft 365 tools.

Qualifications

· Essential: GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent.

· Desirable: AAT Level 2 or 3, or working towards a relevant finance/bookkeeping qualification.

· Accuracy and timeliness of transaction processing.

· Completion of reconciliations by agreed deadlines.

· Reduction and prompt resolution of supplier/customer queries.

· Compliance with internal finance procedures and approval controls.

· Reliable support for month-end, audit and reporting deadlines.

Additional Requirements for a Dynamics 365 Business Central Environment

· Processing invoices through Continia Document Capture.

· Matching purchase invoices to purchase orders and receipts.

· Supporting project accounting, job costing and unbilled revenue checks where relevant.

· Maintaining customer and vendor master data accurately.

· Assisting with VAT returns, MTD submissions and supporting schedules.

· Using Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and Outlook for workflow communication and document storage.

Pay: £24,000.00-£28,000.00 per year
