Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Shop Floor Supervisor to oversee day-to-day production operations within our rolling mill and manufacturing facility. We are looking for a candidate who will be responsible for leading production teams, ensuring safe working practices, maintaining quality standards, and achieving production targets whilst also promoting continuous improvement across the shop floor.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily production activities to ensure output targets, quality standards, and delivery schedules are achieved.
- Lead, motivate, and support the production team
- Monitor production performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity, and waste reduction.
- Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with company health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, toolbox talks, and working with the QHSE team perform risk assessments.
- Monitor product quality and ensure compliance with customer and company specifications.
- Investigate and resolve production issues, equipment faults, and process deviations.
- Liaise with maintenance teams to minimise downtime and support planned maintenance activities.
- Manage staffing levels, shift allocation, absence reporting, and overtime requirements.
- Provide training, coaching, and performance feedback to team members.
- Maintain accurate production records, reports, and shift handover documentation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, lean manufacturing activities, and operational excellence programmes.
- Embed ESG and sustainability principles throughout decision-making, and delivery.
- Identify opportunities to reduce material usage (e.g. steel weights) through innovative design and engineering optimisation.
- Support company-wide ESG initiatives, reporting, and sustainability projects.
- Mentor and encourage team members to consider ESG implications in their work.
Key Requirements
- Previous supervisory experience within a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of rolling mill operations and heavy industrial manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices within an industrial setting.
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage performance effectively.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and organisational abilities.
- Competent in production reporting and use of manufacturing systems.
- Flexible approach to shift working where required.
- Forklift Truck (FLT) and/or Overhead Crane certification (Training can be provided)
- First Aid qualification.
- Experience working within ISO quality management systems.
