This is a Trainee Pharmacy Technician post based within either a Mental Health or Physical Health hospital setting. As part of the training programme, trainees will undertake rotations across a variety of pharmacy services and clinical environments, including Mental Health and Physical Health sites, as well as specialist areas such as Medicines Information, Clinical Trials, Technical Services and other specialist pharmacy services.

The successful post-holder will follow a comprehensive two-year training programme covering all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice. Rotations will include ward-based services, procurement, medicines distribution, receiving and validating prescriptions, issuing medicines, dispensing prescriptions, medicines management, technical services and specialist pharmacy areas. You will also undertake Accuracy Checking training as a part of your training.
A combination of both off-the-job and on-the-job training will be provided to enable the trainee Pharmacy Technician to achieve the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians, the qualification required to register as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
Dispensing for both inpatients, outpatients and discharge medication.
Dispensing of stocks for wards, departments, other hospitals and community clinics.
Replenishment of dispensary stocks.
Insight into Medicines Management
The observation of stock control procedures.
Ward 'top up' services and stock control systems, where in place.

During this two year training program, you will learn the knowledge and skills, which you will need to become a Registered Pharmacy Technician. You will be given study time to achieve the knowledge component of the training program and you will develop your skills by undertaking on the job training.
You will be expected to dispense medication, undertake medicine management duties, replenish and maintain stock and support the dispensary and ward staff.
This is a demanding role and will require study both in work and in your own time. The expectation is that you manage your time to facilitate the completion of your studies. You will receive full support from an Educational Supervisor and qualified pharmacy assessors to complete the qualification.

Must be aged 16 or above.
Must have been resident in the UK/EU for the last 3 years.
Must not hold a Level 3 qualification or above in the subject they will complete the training in.
Must not already be in any form of formal government-funded education.
