Garden Centre Assistant

Full time, working an average of 39 hours per week, working 4 weekdays and 1 alternating weekend day

Pay: £8.00 - £12.71 per hour

We have recently opened our brand-new garden centre in Sudbury, Suffolk and we are excited to be expanding our Retail team.

Perrywood is an independent, family-owned garden centre and nursery group run by the Bourne Family. Our Tiptree, Buckhatch and Sudbury centres are all surrounded by beautiful countryside and our mission is to offer a memorable garden centre experience; delivering wow customer service and giving our employees and customers, a reason to smile.

Working with our retail area supporting our sales and till assistants; we are looking for motivated individuals who can follow instructions and communicate with customers. You will support our mission to offer a memorable garden centre experience; delivering wow customer service and giving employees, customers, suppliers and community a reason to smile.

Discount – From the start of your employment you will receive 10% discount on specific items.Following a successful probation period the discount increases up to 20% discount on specific items and after one years service up to 40% discount on specific items. (some exceptions apply)

Key Duties

Moving trolleys, throughout the day you will be collecting empty trolleys from the car park and returning them to the shop areas
Assisting customers by carrying purchases to their vehicles, particularly with heavy or bulky items, helping load into cars and answering basic queries
Moving stock from/to the warehouse and moving promotional materials and displays around the centre
Maintaining the cleanliness of the garden centre and stock areas, carrying out cleaning duties and minor maintenance works

Your capabilities

Good verbal communication skills, and customer service skills, confident in dealing with members of the public
Able to follow instructions from your supervisors, and work on your own initiative
You are able to lift, carry or move products and purchases (e.g., large compost bags, stone garden pots, garden furniture etc.)

Requirements

Working an average of 39 hours per week
You’ll need to work bank holidays (as part of a rota with other assistants), but will be given a day’s holiday in lieu

Experience

Retail experience preferable
