Full job description

Main Purpose of Job

Glen Dimplex Group is a world leader in intelligent electric heating and renewable energy solutions, as well as holding significant global market positions in domestic appliances, cooling and ventilation.

We are seeking an experienced Quality Technician with Previous experience working within a manufacturing environment to support product quality, process control and continuous improvement activities within our Dudley manufacturing facility.

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting first-off, in-process and final inspections of refractory brick products, ensuring compliance with specification and customer requirements.

The role also supports process control activities across pressing, mixing and firing operations, helping to reduce waste, improve product consistency and maintain compliance with the site Quality Management System (ISO 9001).

In addition, the role will support raw material verification, problem solving, non-conformance investigations and continuous improvement initiatives across the site.

Accountabilities

Product Inspection & Quality Control

Conduct first-off inspections following tooling, material or process changes.
Carry out regular in-process inspections of material mix and pressed brick quality.
Perform final inspection of finished fired bricks prior to packing and despatch.
Verify products against specifications and quality standards.
Monitor and report defects, reject rates and scrap levels within pressing and firing departments.
Escalate quality concerns to Production Supervision and management promptly where non-conformance or process issues are identified.

Process Control & Compliance

Support process control activities within mixing, pressing and firing operations
Verify process compliance against approved operating methods and quality requirements.
Monitor incoming raw materials to confirm compliance with specification requirements.
Raise and manage non-conformance reports (NCRs) for materials, products or process deviations.
Support containment activities relating to quality concerns or process deviations.

Quality Systems & Auditing

Participate in internal ISO 9001 quality system audits as required.
Assist in maintaining compliance with the site Quality Management System.
Ensure calibration of inspection and testing equipment is maintained and recorded.
Support corrective and preventive action activities.
Assist with investigation and resolution of customer and internal quality issues.

Continuous Improvement

Participate in root cause analysis and problem-solving activities relating to production and quality issue.
Suggest and support implementation of process improvements to reduce waste and scrap.
Assist in analysing quality trends and reporting findings to management.
Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives across the site.
Work collaboratively with operational teams to improve product consistency, process capability and Right First-Time performance.
Help maintain high housekeeping standards in line with 5S principles.

Health, Safety & Environmental

Work collaboratively with Production, Engineering and Management teams to promote a positive safety culture across the site in accordance with company safety policies and procedures.
Promote and demonstrate safe working practices within the production environment and challenge unsafe behaviours where appropriate.
Report hazards, unsafe conditions, near misses, accidents or environmental concerns promptly in line with site reporting procedures.
Ensure quality inspection and testing activities are carried out in a safe and controlled manner.
Wear and maintain required PPE in accordance with site rules.

Communication & Teamwork

Work closely with Production, Maintenance and Technical teams to support quality performance.
Communicate quality concerns clearly and professionally to relevant departments.
Support development of quality awareness and good manufacturing practices across the site.
Promote positive communication, teamwork and continuous improvement culture across the site.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

ESSENTIAL BEHAVIOURS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Experience of Quality Control and Assurance within a similar manufacturing environment ideally withing the refractory, metal pressing or foundry industries.
Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present data, findings and quality concerns clearly.
Understanding of quality management systems and ISO 9001 requirements.
Ability to challenge quality issues professionally and confidently.
Experience using measurement and inspection equipment.
Strong attention to detail.
Good IT literacy and knowledge of Microsoft office; including experience using Excel for recording and trending quality data.

DESIRABLE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Experience at conducting internal ISO9001 system audits
Experience within refractory, ceramics, foundry or heavy manufacturing industries
Internal Auditor qualification
Experience using SAP
