As an Air Traffic Control Assistant (ATCA) at Oxford Airport, you'll play a crucial role working alongside our Air Traffic Controllers to support the safe and efficient movement of aircraft across the airport and in the surrounding airspace.
An ATCA has a varied operational role, combining air traffic control support, flight bookings, radio and telephone communications, meteorology and interdepartmental coordination.
You will spend time in both the Visual Control Room (VCR – Tower) and the Approach Control Room (ACR – Radar).
You will be fully trained in all aspects of an ATCA's role. As part of your training, you will attend a course to become a Meteorological Observer, responsible for producing meteorological reports for the airport and its customers.
For the right candidate, the role also offers a genuine route towards further Air Traffic Control qualifications, subject to performance, aptitude and business need.
What you'll be doing
● Supporting Air Traffic Controllers by monitoring aircraft movements on the ground and in the air using surveillance systems, computer systems and visual references
● Processing flight bookings made via telephone and email for circuit, training, general aviation, commercial and business aviation using the Oxford Slot Booking System and the Flight Data Management System and other operational tools
● Managing telephone enquiries on behalf of Oxford ATC and providing accurate information to customers and airport users
● Monitoring and actioning ATC department emails, ensuring requests and information are dealt with promptly
● Communicating via radio and telephone with the airport fire service, ground handling, refuellers and the operations departments on ATC and customer requests
● Preparation and dissemination of meteorological observations, maintaining accurate weather information in accordance with relevant procedures
● Supporting emergency procedures, including alerting external emergency services when required and assisting with the flow of information during operational incidents
● Completing relevant company training courses and attending meetings as required
● Working closely with other members of the ATC team to ensure tasks are completed accurately, efficiently and in accordance with regulatory and company standards.
Pay: £27,000.00-£28,000.00 per year
